Unable to view Inbox sub-folders in Mail on OSX Mavericks

Hello,

I'm working with two Exchange accounts that have the same problem. Both accounts have sub-folders underneath the Inbox folder. After upgrading to OSX Mavericks, the sub-folders are no longer visible within Mail. If I go on the web and mark a mail in one of these sub-folders as unread, the unread count on the Inbox increases, however the mail along with the subfolder it is in, are still not visible. Additionally, if I right-click on the Inbox folder and choose "Get Account Info", and switch to "Messages on Server", I can see the sub-folders listed there, the number of messages in it, and the size of the folder. If I click on the folder within this window and choose "Show Messages" it opens a new, blank, Mail window.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to get these folders to show again? I tried rebuilding to Inbox to no avail. I am trying to find a solution that doesn't involve recreating the account in Mail, if possible, as some of the mailboxes I have to deal with are extremely large, and to re-download them all from the Exchange server would take a very long time.

If you go into Mail preferences, select the Account tab, and then un-tick "Enable this account", and then tick it again all the folders reappear... :-)

This doesn't solve the problem. It happens again. This is a definite apple mail bug. I've spoken to tech support about it many times.

Okay, this is a simple answer which may or may not solve your problem. Your folders may be there but just not displaying. I have four inboxes: gmail, yahoo, outlook (exchange) and iCloud. After the upgrade my subfolders for yahoo were showing but not for outlook. After looking around and checking these forums, I finally found the little switch that turns them on and off. In the account folder list, there is a little plus ➕ sign next to the folder, beside that, in tiny print is the word "show." Click "show" and your folders may come on the screen.

I had a folder structure:

Inbox

Distro
- ...

That seemed to break it. By creating another dummy folder right underneath Inbox, it worked:

Inbox

Distro
- ...
Dummy

Everything else didn't work for me.

After an hour or more of futzing around with various suggestions, THIS one was the charm. There should be nothing in the IMAP path prefix, nothing at all. Mine had a username there???

Go to Mail Prefs, Accounts, unclick enable this account, then reclick it. My mailboxes came back right way

I trawled the internet looking for the simplest solution to htis really annoying glitch and you had it! Perfect and so very simple - why hadn't Apple published this somewhere?.....
