iBooks Author 2.1 not embedding fonts

I have a template that I have created in iBooks Author 2 which was viewing on an ipad just fine. I have now used the template (after updating to iBooks Author 2.1) and created a German version, replacing all the text. Now when I export to my iPad the font is dropped. This is a non standard font, however this is an OpenType font which worked perfectly well on the previous version of iBooks Author.

Can anyone confirm this is a big in the new version of iBooks Author. There do appear to be other users posting similar issues, although it is unclear at this stage whether it is related to iBA 2.1.

Still can't embed fonts in 2.1.1. Tried replacing my ttf URW Baskerville fonts for the regular Baskerville and italic versions. IBA will warn me if I use a postscript or unsupported font, but doesn't do so with these and a few others I tried. After exporting the file, I have the same problem. Looks fine in iBooks on my Mac but not if I turn the font off in Fontbook, and the iPad replaces the face with something generic.

Also, I have to access the Font Pane (Command T) as I don't see any fonts under Format > Font. Is that normal? Actually, they show up in the Format Bar but not in the menu.

Yeah, it defaults to a sans serif typeface. The file was created in 2.1.1 as well so there's no legacy issues. Seems like whatever typeface I use, it gets replaced with a sans serif.

Is this a totally new file, starting fresh from a template?

Perhaps you should try totally deleting your iBA app and downloading a new copy.

This sounds like the problems seen in 2.1 but not 2.1.1 - I have to assume that you are using the right version of the app but you should check under "About IBooks Author" just in case.

I used a rather strange font called Old Newspaper that I was concerned with, but it worked just fine once I had updated to 2.1.1. Is your version of Baskerville the only custom font that won't embed properly? Have you tried other fonts that would clearly be custom and not found on an iPad?

Hi. I just found this topic and would like to add an experience I've been having.

I was using a font that was definitely not included in OSX. When I previewed the book on any iPad, or in iBooks on any Mac, it looked fine.

My designer suggested a different font (also not a standard font in OSX), and now it looks fine previewing in iBooks on a Mac, but NOT on iPad. It's replacing it with Arial or something.

Has anyone had thi problem where it looks fine on a Mac but not on an iPad? I shoudl mention that the Macs I have test on do not have the font installed, so it seems that IBA is indeed embedding it.

Thanks,

Dustin
