iBooks Author 2.1 not embedding fonts

I have a template that I have created in iBooks Author 2 which was viewing on an ipad just fine. I have now used the template (after updating to iBooks Author 2.1) and created a German version, replacing all the text. Now when I export to my iPad the font is dropped. This is a non standard font, however this is an OpenType font which worked perfectly well on the previous version of iBooks Author.

Can anyone confirm this is a big in the new version of iBooks Author. There do appear to be other users posting similar issues, although it is unclear at this stage whether it is related to iBA 2.1.

I just got that same problem as I copied the file on a first generation iPad. Interestingly, it works perfectly on my iPad Gen2!!!

This file is based on a template I used before and had no problems with any embedded font in both of the iPads. Big mess if I need to go now and change all fonts for my iBook File... argggggg

Never mind, it doesn't work on either one. Big PooPoo.

It gets worst!!!. I opened all the iBook authors I've created and downloaded from the app store. They looked perfectly before but now all fonts are messed up. This means the problem is with the new iOS for the iPad?!!!

I just upgraded this morning.

I need to check those same books in my older iPad once I can get my hands on it. Will keep you posted.

I think it is fair to say that an update is coming soon. Apple is aware of the issues. I would hold off rebuilding your eBooks with 2.0 until the update is released. (I rebuilt one book because it was nearly done anyways and hadn't been touched by iBA 2.1, but am holding off on the other.)

If you don't mind a bit of self-promotion, I should point out that this is the kind of topic that is reported on regularly on TNM as the site is meant for publishers (as opposed to those just interested in tech).

Also, any update I'm sure will be labeled 2.1.1 - or something like that.

This is a small guide to recover a book poisoned by iBooks Author 2.1

  1. Retrieve one copy of IBooks Author 2.0 from Time Machine. Delete iBooks Author 2.1.
  2. Open a book poisoned by iBooks Author 2.1
  3. Open your custom template or a new document in iBooks Author 2.0
  4. From the sidebar, copy and paste the chapters from the poisoned document to the new document. You have to do it one by one.
  5. Copy and paste the cover
  6. You'll have to manually rebuild the glossary
  7. You will, also, to re-enter the book information tab in the Document Inspector.
  8. Reviews the book. Sync with your iPad to make sure everything is OK.

The whole process should take a few minutes.
