How do I change the apple id to update apps from Appstore on mac

Hi, can somebody please help me?

Last time, I was using my father's apple id for the appstore on my macbook pro. (Now, i have my own apple id.) Sometimes when there's apps that i want to update, a window would pop out to ask me to sign into my father's apple id, but i want to update the apps using my own apple id. Is there anything i could do to use my own apple id to update the apps? Please help me!

You still don't get it! iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are NOT core apps. They are not part of the apps installed with an update or upgrade of any version of OS X. They are MAS apps, they have MAS receipts in their app bundle and they would cost money if you had to buy them them from the MAS (as many people do.) They just happen to be given free by Apple with the purchase of a new Mac.

However, when a new Mac owner first sets up their new Mac, they must Accept the iLife apps into their MAS account before using any one of the three apps. If they don't, allthree apps cannot be upgraded.

Yes, they are updated through the MAS. Core Apps are not updated through the MAS, they are installed when OSX is updated through the MAS. Two very different processes.

Hi DahVeed,

I have a similar question. I am an admin person (PM not IT) that initially set-up 3 Macbook Airs for several people to add corp MS Ofiice, Antivirus, Email, etc. etc. Now every time there is an app update on these units, I am called in login-in to my apple-id so the app updates can occur. How do I take my apple ID out of these units so that these folks can do these updates themselves?

Going forward, I have stopped setting up macbooks! I let them break open the boxes themselves and let them install corp software themselves with volume license keys.

Please advise how I can get my apple ID off their machines!

Thanks!

You need to erase them and start over, the same as for a 2nd hand Mac. User Linc Davis explains how; https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6087156?answerId=25468326022#25468326022

But it's not a good idea to give an emplyee free reign on a corp Mac, as a disgruntled employee could activate Find My Mac and lock the Mac. Because it is registered to the employee's Apple ID the Mac would be useless after it was locked and there are reports that Apple won't violate the Apple ID and unlock it.

You might speak to Apple's business division from which you get your volume licenses for the best way to handle corp Macs and rollout software updates.

So does this trash solution include apps like Safari?? I can just drag that to the trash and it'll stop asking me for the original owner's Apple ID/password? Otherwise I don't see any way to permit apps to update themselves...

And I agree 100% with the others here: this setup it utterly stupid. Apple must actually believe that we cybernetically suture our iMacs to our faces. I mean please.

Ok, so my Dad bought my macbook pro for me and annoyingly enough he decided to set it up before giving it to me and used his appleID in the process.

Now I would like to update iMovie/iPhoto etc... but I can't because his appleID comes up.

So just to be clear, from what I've read on this thread, my only options are to trash these applications and reinstall them from the app store with my own ID, or to ask my Dad for his account password so I can just go ahead with the update... am I correct?

I'm a first time mac user and I must say, as much as I'm loving my new macbook this is one of those apple things that seems completely ridiculous. I'm quite annoyed.

When a company offloads excess inventory to employees (who want Apple products) the old AppleID is still installed on the (my) machine. As such, I am unable to download updates for such simple apps as iTunes (now prompted for an update) since I do not have the company's password for the Store, and I am unable to learn (thus far) how/where to change the AppleID.

Can you or someone make a suggestion that works?

Preparing a 2nd Hand Mac for use -

You need to erase the HDD, reinstall the version of OS X that shipped from the factory on the Mac and then set it up as new with your own Apple ID.

User Linc Davis explains how a new owner can prepare a 2nd hand Mac for their own use.

I had a similar situation on my work laptop. Here's what I did -- I used finder to move the following applications to trash: Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto, iMovie. It is necessary to have admin privileges on the computer (which I do). Once these are removed, the App Store app would let me sign in using my own Apple ID. I'm now able to install my own purchases including the 5 apps I deleted. Hope this helps.

I have just changed my ID / Primary Email from an email account that no longer worked to one that does. I logged into the website and changed it all there, so it's the SAME ACCOUNT but just a different ID / Email

Yet, I can't update the Apps on my iPod, and when I access the iTunes Store through my PC using my new ID, it tells me I haven't purchased any music.

The issue I think most of us have with this is that WE HAVE PURCHASED THE CONTENT - IT IS LEGALLY OURS, but if you change your ID/ primary email address because you have to, that content is frozen with the old ID/email. I can't update Apps THAT I HAVE PAID FOR on a machine THAT I OWN. When my iPod stops working all the music that I purchased and downloaded on it will also disappear and will have to be re-purchased. And I can't go back to the old email address - it doesn't exist so it can't be verified.

This is unutterable rubbish. The arrogance of Apple is simply breathtaking. I've worked in computing - this isn't hard. You could allow us to type in a new ID, and so long as it links to the same account that the purchases were made with, you should allow us to re-download OUR content and update OUR apps.

It appears that the purchaser of the app is the owner of the app, but only so long as you keep the same ID. Change that, and Apple take your apps & music back off you and laugh all the way to the bank. In future I'm using Android and Amazon - they don't treat you like this.

Whatever your issue is, it is not what you are describing. If you change your Apple ID by going to Manage your Apple ID and by using the EDIT key to put in a new email address for that Apple ID, and if you verify that new email address, then all purchases are available under that new Apple ID.

Many people create a new Apple ID instead of editing the existing one. Which is why we say that all apps are tied to the Apple ID that they are purchased under. Probably what we should say is that they are tied to the Apple Account that they were purchased with. As long as it is the same account with just a new updated email address for the Apple ID, the purchases are still tied to that account.

Did you go to Settings>General>iTunes & App Store and sign out the old ID and sign in the new one? Did you delete the iCloud account with the old ID? Did you sign out of Messages and FaceTime and sign back in with the new ID? Did you try resetting the device?

Cheers,
