Downloaded the most recent update (11.1.2) to iTunes. Now, for the first time, iTunes is showing a CONSTANT SPINNING RAINBOW WHEEL. Cannot play iTunes music. iTunes is frozen. Frustrating. Cannot use iTunes at all. Left it alone for about 1/2 hour and then could play and use iTunes, but happens all over again when restarting iTunes. Attention Apple: Please provide a fix to this issue. We like iTunes and cannot be without.

Installed and Running update 11.1.2 (two days ago)

Current OS: 10.6.8

iTunes Music files stored on external Firewire 800 Drive.

iTunes Library located on iMacs internal 500GB HD. Home>Music>iTunes>iTunes Library.itl

I'm in the same boat...I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro, and ever since the iTunes 11.1.2 update, my iTunes won't open. I get the bouncing icon in the dock and then a crash record. But, I haven't installed the Maverick OS upgrade. So, apparently iTunes 11.1.2 is jacked whether you have installed Maverick or not.

I'm really sad to be without iTunes, and missed out on my mindfulness meditations this weekend which directly affects my mental health.

Hey, Apple, can you give us iTunes back or tell us how to fix this?

I've found that the problems with speed in 11.1.2 seem to be related to having the status bar switched on or off.

With the status bar switched on, going from any other view (artist, genres, a playlist) to album view it takes about 15 seconds before I can select an album.

With status bar not shown the problem disappears - so think it must be a bug in the calculation of number of albums etc. for large libraries (I have about 3,500 CDs).

I have a similar issue with iTunes where it just seems to freeze following Mavericks upgrade (not clean install) so on the one hand I'm kinda relieved other people are experiencing this too.

I've tried repairing permissions & resetting the SMC but to no avail. Next step is to try safe mode and failing that I'll look to create a new iTunes library.

I think I found the solution, at least for me.

I had iTunes hanging while starting up. Nothing happened except for the first menu item showing.

No 100% CPU or anything like that.

It turned out that another window appeared on my second monitor in which I had to agree to some iTunes agreement.

I didn't see the window at all because the second monitor was off.

So maybe it helps for some of you: turn on your second monitor if you have one. You might see another iTunes window in there.
