Mavericks - power use / service battery
Has anyone seen their power use increase dramatically (or their service battery warning come on) after upgrading to Mavericks?
MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

3-1/2 year old mid-2009 13" MBP here with a SSD instead of the stock mechanical HD and after upgrading to Mavericks, I started seeing the Service Battery message for the first time and now I see that the battery capacity and life has really taken a hit.
I've been off the charger for about 45 minutes after it presumably being fully charged from being plugged in all day and it's down to 63% and 2:03 remaining. Unreal. Battery stats below:
Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 2646
Fully Charged: No
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4095
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 252
Condition: Service Battery
UPDATE: 70 minutes off charger, now showing 50% and 1:20 remaining. Pathetic.
same issue here
updated to Mavricks my battery life at full charge is 2:00 hours and says service battery!
down graded back to moutian lion full charge gives me 5:00 + hours and battery is in good condition with only 145 cicles on it, and all my apps work
on mavricks more then half my apps that i use for work no longer even start up
Im just happy that i copy my os before the update
Kind of glad to see I am not the only one having this issue. Right before the update, I had no battery issues, right afterwards, service battery. On top of that, my system seems a little slower.
I've also seen a significant drop in battery performance.
What's ridiculous is that I have a 2013 Macbook Air that is 3 months old. Before the update, the battery would last an amazing 10 hours or so. Now 5 or less. I have tried to diagnose the problem using Instruments, but there aren't any obvious culprits.
I have had this issue too but, it seems to go away after a restart. Check your activity monitor and see if the Kernal_root is taking up a lot of memory. That's what I found as the problem.

same thing reported after Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion and now Mavericks. But only happening to a few people. No change in my battery life on three MacBook Pros. Check your activity monitor.

+1 for the service battery message.
Running a Mid 2012 13" MacBook Air, never seen the warning before. Fewer than 400 cycles.
I've a 2012 rMBP. Before the update to 10.9, my battery (173 cycles, 94%) use to last 7/8 hours.
Now, with 70% of battery charge remaining, it only gives me 2:56 of battery life.

The upgrade also borked the power/restart button. Pressing it now causes the screen to go blank for a few seconds, but the shutdown/restart dialog never appears.
Power button behavior was specifically changed in Mavericks. Pressing it puts the display to sleep (same as Shift-Ctrl-Eject on machines with an Eject button), a long press (~1.5s) or pressing Ctrl + Power will pop up the shutdown/restart dialog and a very long press (~5s) will do an immediate forced shutdown.
Same issue here. Macbook unibody 2008.
Service battery warning showed up after Mavericks update.
I am having a similar issue with my 2010 Macbook Pro, though to be fair they may have been occurring prior, I just never checked the power menu before Mavericks. It sounds like there may be some issue with the way Mavericks is detecting battery history. Maybe it reset the previous configuration? I wonder if a few cycles will resolve some of the battery capacity measurement issues.
I am having the same issue. After I updated to Mavericks, I had the "Service battery, Battery is charged." warning in the energy saver settings. It was fine before the upgrade. Below is my battery info.
Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 10273
Fully Charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 10304
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 94
Condition: Service Battery
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 8258
