Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have an older Powermac G5 dual PPC processor with OSX 5.8 (Leopard) on it. I cannot change the date and time, all I get is the spinning rainbow disc and the prefs have to be shut down. Does anyone know how to get this back on track? Thanks in advance!

In D&T prefs/ Date&Time/ clock show 8 hrs ahead. Date follows time. Set time automatically/-- if I click that, get spinning rainbow. If I try to move clock or date, more spinning rainbow.
In time zone, the closest city area is grayed out. Cannot change...
Might be this file...

A hidden file.
Sorry, I'm not seeing GlobalPreferences in the Library/Preferences list. I am looking in the same area (under User)

No worry, there can be at least 3 folders called Library...
One in each user's folder
One in /System/ folder at root of the drive, then the one mentioned, just /Library/ at the root of the drive. 🙂

Found it! There are 2 of them -- actually there are 18, but only 2 of them are dated currently. the others appear to be foreign language based - -
One is in the MacSys/Library/Preferences folder, the other is in the Macsys/Users/User/Library/Preferences--
Which one (or both) do I trash and reboot? I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, hope it's not a mirage -
Well, first try the one in the Users folder.
Didn't do it. Delete the other one? I'm not assuming anything here - -
I'd try the other one, but not empty the trash in case we need to put it back.
Not good. Everything is at ground zero, cannot find the file, clock says 1970.
It's not remembering anything. Have no idea how to get out of this.
Replace that last trashed file toit's original location in Safe Mode, reboot.
I cannot move it. It shows that it is in the trash in find any file, but I cannot see it nor can I move it in find any file.
Could you gtive me some more detailed information? I am new to this, especially at this level. A few more words would really help. Thank you.

Are you running from an admin account?
Did you try logging into the new admin account yet?
There is a new one, actually 2 new ones
I am running from the original admin account I set up when I installed Leopard
No new admin account has been set up.
I am running Leopard 10.5.8
I have the install disk with 10.5.6
OSX 10.5.8- cannot change date and time. Have changed pram battery, still have spinning rainbow dot.
