pegasus drive and mavericks

I've upgraded to mavericks but 24 hours later my Pegasus R Series Thunderbolt drive doesn't appear on my desktop. If I look in System Report it is listed under Thunderbolt devices, but it doesn't show up in the Finder window. Any clues?

Same problem here with my Pegagus R6!

Since Mavericks my iMac 27" (Mid 2011) is unstable (never had this problem for over 2 years) and it looks like it is related to my Promise Pegasus R6 (RAID 10) connected via Thunderbolt.

After a couple of hours my iMac hangs. Mouse is still working, but for the rest nothing. Ihave to physically unplug my iMac for a hard reset in order for it to startup.

Playing with this problem I noticed that when I unplug my Promise my iMac works fine. Mavericks also has problems connecting the thunderbolt drive once in a while.

At the moment I suspect an issue with thunderbolt drives and Mavericks.

I'll keep trying to look into this issue myself, but hopefully Apple figures out what the problem is and comes with a solution.

I have posted on 2 other threads as well: after jumping through multple hoops, reformatting, re-installing maverick, unplugging the pegasus r4, etc, deleting the time machine .plist file to hard reset time machine, i got a first-backup, but the pegasus failed again on the first incremental::

the promise pegasus r4 IS NOT COMPATIBLE with maverick. Promise.com reported they have no idea what the problem is. some WD HD's are having the same issue, and it seems to be a maverick fault.

Promise has fully tested and assured compatibility of Pegasus products with OS X Mavericks.
Note that other 3rd party Thunderbolt peripherals daisy chained and their respective software can affect the overall behavior.

I have a Promise Pegasus J4, that operates normally via Thunderbolt on a Mac running 10.8.5, if I connect via thunderbolt to a Mac running 10.9 it does not mount.

I called Promise Tech support, and asked if there were people reporting problems with Mavericks, and was told no.

EDIT - should also note that the Mac that the Pegasus will not mount on is a very clean installation, and there are no other devices on the thunderbolt chain.

I contacted Promise, and receieved a one-line response saying that they had no idea what thee problem could be.

I have tried everything, and as I've explained before, I have a new'ish iMac loaded, with 2 27" Thunderbolt Apple displays added, and a Promise Pegasus R4 (no other Thunderbolt devices). The R4 DOES NOT PLAY WELL WITH MAVERICK. IT DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WITH TIME MACHINE. IT CRASHES AND REQUIRES A FORCED EJECT. ALL THE FILES ARE BROKEN, IT WILL NOT RESUME A TIME MACHINE BACKUP.

Yes, some also complain that WD and other HD's are also dying with Maverick, but I have installed a 3TB USB WD Ext HDD 1021 and it has performed Time Machine backups (inclusding incrementals) OK.

It is not just the iMac, the Time Machine, or perhaps the R4, but the R4 does not work with this iMac and Maverick, yet it was fine with Mountian Lion... it only died under Maverick. It will format, but it will not function Maverick with Time Machine.

Soooo... PROMISE... you have obviously NOT tested it thoroughly with Maverick, and lying about that online when your support people admit otherwise isn't helping your preputation. I have been through at least 4 other threads here on this issue, and they all complain aboutPromise Pegasus being dysfuntional with Maverick.

YAY: finally, kudos to 3 guys at Promise (Jerry, Stephen and Victor) (i hope, but everything seems to be working again, although i did lose all my older backups).

NUMBER ONE PROBLEM: MY IMAC DID NOT HAVE THE PROMISE UTILITY INSTALLED. I INSTALLED THAT FROM THEIR SITE DOWNLOAD CENTRE, BUT THEY ALSO SENT ME A LINK TO IT.

granted, they haven't quite released the fully-functional mavericks (osx 10.9) version yet, but the older one does work in command mode to get reports out of it.

AFTER THAT, IT WAS NOTED THAT MY FIRMWARE VERSION WAS OUT-OF-DATE, AND IT REQUIRES THE LATEST ONE TO WORK WITH MAVERICKS (PERMISSION ISSUES, SOMETHING I ALREADY SUSPECTED WAS HAPPENING BUT APPLE ERROR MESSAGES ARE GETTING TO BE LIKE MICROSOFT IT SEEMS)

NEXT ITEM, MAC USERS CAN'T DOWNLOAD THE FIRMWARE UPDATE FROM PROMISE AND EXPECT IT TO WORK, THE .IMG FILE THEY HAVE WON'T WORK UNDER MAVERICKS (APPLE'S NEW PROPRIETARY FILE FORMAT BS AGAIN I SUSPECT).

SO, YOU MUST-MUST-MUST HAVE THAT PROMISE UTILITY INSTALLED AND THEN 'CHECK FOR UPDATES'. THEN INSTALL THE UPDATE VIA THAT UTILITY. THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY TO POWER CYCLE YOUR PEGASUS OR REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM... YOU MUST-MUST-MUST DO BOTH.

THEN, GOD, DEMONS, AND OTHER ASSPORTED SAINTS AND PROPHETS (PROFITS?) PERMITTING, YOU'RE UP- AND-RUNNING AGAIN.

I SURE WISH THE **** SOMEONE HAD SAID ALL THIS A WEEK AGO INSTEAD OF 'OH YAH, WELL WE TESTED EVERYTHING AND OURS WORKS'

GET THE WORD OUT TO PROMISE USERS GUYS AND GALS... GET THAT PROMISE UTILITY AND DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE!!!

AND IF YOU CAN'T GET THAT HD TO WORK... THEY WILL SEND YOU THEIR EMAIL ADDRESSES - THESE GUYS DO GET IT DONE (BUT ONLINE SUPPORT AT PROMISE.COM... PAH)

Everyone. In my prior posting I purposely

Omitted Pegasus J4. Pegasus J4 although functions in

Mavericks it is not officially supported yet.

Stay tuned for a service release.

All other Pegasus products are fully supported in

Mavericks:

Pegasus R4, R6, R8 and Pegasus J2.

This includes first generation Thunderbolt 1

And latest generation Thunderbolt 2 Pegasus

Products.

Note: To insure proper functionality please be sure to upgrade to the latest

Firmware and Software via "automatic" upgrade

In the Promise Utility. You may want to

Leave it enabled to auto check for updates.

I have a Promise J4 w/ 4 hard drives in it. It worked fine with Mountain Lion, and has worked fine with Mavericks.

I use it on a Macbook Pro 15" Retina, via an *Apple* cord.

Sometimes the thing takes a few tries to mount. But it's always done that (I ran Mountain Lion when I bought it). It eventually mounts and all is well.

I do have a "Pegasus J4 Updater" app installed in /Applications. I don't recall installing that. I don't recall ever having ran it, nor having had to run it. Until today, to obtain the following information:

It runs LSI Firmware 12.0.0.3 and Bios 1.00.00.01, MCU Firmware 1.0.20, FW Package 1.00.0000.08 and J4 Driver 1.0.36.

I have ST10000LM024 HN-M drives in it.

Hope that helps someone.

I have tried all of the suggested changes.

My Configuration:

MacPro Late 2013 runing Maverics 9.1.1

Pegasus R4 (old TB1 version)

I used Promis Utility 3.18.0000.18 and am running Firmware 5.02.0000.98

Every time MacPro sleeps (or I go away for a while) Pegasus hangs, disapears or just does not respond.

I tried now turning off Power Managment in the Pegasus as a workaround.

I did get this working fine on a Macbook 17 runnin Mavericks. Its when I moved the R4 to MacPro it started complaining.

Hi guys

I had this problem last year when I updated to Mavericks and again after the latest system update.

I think I just got sorted. I downloaded the latest Promise Utility (after trashing the old one) and ran the update. I turned off the Pegasus drive – actually unplugged it because it wouldn't turn off – and shut down my computer.

Started the computer, turned on the drive and it mounted. Ran Promise Utility and it advised that there was a firmware update available. I followed the prompts and everything seems to have gone to plan.

I'm going to keep the machine running until I get some urgent stuff done but I'll keep you posted.
