Apogee Duet (1) not working on Mavericks

I had been on Snow Leopard and Duet worked fine. Upgraded to Mavericks, now it does not.

I plug it in initially (after reboot) and sound comes through the Duet. If I touch any volume control, the sound cuts out. In Maestro, the controls are all very finnecky, can't select any options. If I unplug and replug, still no sound comes through. Assuming it's a problem with Maestro compatability, but I've heard that Mavericks isn't really playing nicely with other non-apple hardware either. Suggestions?

Have you checked with the Apogee folks? Perhaps they have updated drivers?

Hi all,

I have exactly the same issue. I have this crackling sound with my new IMAC 27' on Mavericks.
I did not have them before with my old imac (from 2007) but since I bought the new one it is there. It started with M-Audio Fast Track but it is even worse now that I have the Apogee Duet 2.

I first thought it was the Duet so I went back to the store and change it but the problem is still there. I have sent the problem with apogee and they ask me for a system file so I am waiting for their answer.

When I use Duet on my old mac the sound is perfect.

Si I guess it is either a hardware issue with the mac or definitevely an issue of compatibility with Duet/Mavericks.

I havent been getting any crackling. everything sounds clear when it works for me. anytime i do get a crackle or a pop is when im rebooting my system, i was told that with this interface there should be no interference (crackling, popping) during a reboot...when does your crackling or popping occur? during any form of sound play?

I still think this is an Apple issue, not Apogee. I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but I have this issue with a new iMac 27" delivered last month, with a Samson USB mic that had worked fine for years. Having tried everything I could think of, I ended up buying a new Shure PG42 USB mic, and I have exactly the same issue from the start. I can record for a few seconds to a few minutes, then boom! The crackling starts and I have to unplug the mic and plug it in again to fix it.

I can use both mics fine on my 1 year old MacBook Pro. I tried re-installing the iMac from scratch. No different.

I have spent a couple of hours on the phone with Apple Support here in Japan where I live, and they spent a few days last week, then reported back on Sunday that they can reproduce the issue. They didn't say which USB mic they were using, but I don't think it makes any difference.

They of course did not commit to a fix or a timeframe, but have recognized that there is an issue and said they would continue to try and find a solution.

As it stands, I can't use either USB mic for recording, Skype, Google Hangouts, nothing. It either goes noisy as crackly, or it crashes my iMac after a while.

One thing I noticed that made it better, was unplugging the electric cord to my Belkin Thunderbolt hub. Just unplugging the Thunderbolt cable from the iMac didn't make a difference, but actually turning it off did.

I don't know if the iMac is succeptable to static or noise from other devices, or if the Belkin hub is even emitting any, but when that is turned off, I can work for much longer without an issue. After about 30 minutes of recording or talking on Skype though, my iMac freezes and I have to reboot. It's fine otherwise. It only freezes when I'm using the mic. Very frustrating.

We recently are aware of an issue occurring with USB audio on the newest Mac models. The hardware specific issue does not occur on Mac's produced prior to Fall 2013. This appears to be affecting USB audio interfaces from other manufacturers as well as Apogee's. Our Engineering team is working diligently with Apple to get this resolved as soon as possible.

We aren't talking about the native instruments working or not. The problem is with our apogee gear And newer macs. The answer is right there in plain sight for us late 2013 iMac users...it's the USB ports. That's the answer from the people who make and work for the company who makes and sells the interface we are using and having trouble with. So who am I going to believe? Them or you? I think I'll listen to the professionals who actually work for the company that makes my interface. I'm sure an update will be up soon. It would really suck if they couldn't make a firmware update and for some reason they have to recall the interface itself to change its internal parts to work with our newer iMacs
