I filed the bug report last week or early this week and Apple said they couldn't reproduce it. I sent a video showing them. They later sent back saying this was duplicate bug report and would be deleted (or something like that). So they certainly know. I wish I hadn't upgraded either. I love how much faster Aperture is, but I'm not sure it was worth the cost of all the Preview and Mail issues.

I can comfirm that the issue is with Mavericks. I Netbooted to a SuperDuper! Image (Backup directly before I updated to 10.9) running 10.8.5 and previewed a NEF from a D800 and it opened imediately. When I reboot into 10.9.0 (Same machine). It takes about 20~40 seconds to preview a NEF. It does not matter if its directly off the SD Card, Local Drive (Where the OS is installed (Which is a SSD) or the SAN where I store my Aperture Libraries. All the same results. Slow. Really, Really slow.

Hopefully this will get fixed in 10.9.1. Soon.

I have about 117.9GB free from 196.2 on the Local Drive (SSD - Samsung). And this system has 16GB of Ram.

Mac Mini i7 (Late 2012) The SAN is connected via iSCSI. The Display is a 30" Cinema. (I've even changed the display with a Samsung 1080p Display with the thinking that the slowness was coming from the resolution of the 30". Same issue)

Same here on both an old Macbook Pro 2009 and a recent Mini I5.

Jpg preview is now realy slow.

Both systems have SSD and the mini has 8GB of memory, when the MBP has 4Gb.

There are some obvious performance issues with 10.9.

Just open the Application or Utilities folder, and the application icons are appearing one by one... never saw this before.

I'll check it someone else noticed this in another thread, but I can see this on my 2 system as well as on my daughter's MBA.

This happens the first time the Application or Utilities folder is open when a new session is launched.

I've returned 3 of my iMacs to 10.8.5 and fixed a host of issues. Preview is a major problem and it's not just speed. Adding pages and making new PDF's for etear sheets (newspaper) proved next to impossible when they wouldn't save. Oh, they said they saved, but when opening the file back up it was wrong.

Mail is another app with serious deficiencies from before. dragging and dropping attachments would many times not work. Printing had changed quite a bit.

Now it's back to working and so is the virtual machines that were having issues. I'm wondering if it all has to do with forcing programs to be 64-bit and the apps just weren't ready.

I also have the same problem with a 15inch retina, 8gigs of ram and a 256 ssd. I was on the phone with support for a while and I was transferred to a manager. He thanked me for bringing the issue to his attention and to keep my eyes peeled for a raw update. That was over a week ago....

I used to use finder to do all of my deletions before importing into lightroom. Now, I'm wiping my card clean, importing into lightroom, deleting from lightroom, then taking the remainders and recopying them to the SD card. It's a bit more intensive, but it speeds up workflow. If you're like me and are dealing with 1200 shots at a minimum at a time, then this workaround should help you a bit, instead of waiting 3-5 seconds for those pictures to load!

Here's hoping for an update soon!

Cheers!

yep , I was suffering the same issue when opening Canon Raw. I have a mid 2011 2.7 Ghz i5 and never had this problem prior to Mavericks. It was taking about 15 - 20 secs to view a file. However I have just this afternoon re-installed Mavericks in recovery mode and tried opening the same files again. This managed to reduce opening delay to 3-5 secs but still slower than ML.

Hope that helps.

Same over here > ARW files (raw from Sony A77) is very slow since Mavericks update! Can not work this way!

My question: I did email this "bug" to Apple Support > no reply. Several Apple Forums > no reply.

Why doesn't Apple answer anywhere, that they are aware of this problem and will try to fix this issue as soon as possible??

Are we not the ones paying (a lot) for there products?

Well I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having this issue. I confirm it all started with Mavericks, everything was fine before that.

I'm also using preview for viewing ~12 Mb RAW files, and it's very slow, despite 8 Gb of RAM and a brand new SSD. Curiously, I open 600 Mb videos instantly !
