I was thinking the same thing. It could be Google Chrome.

But, If you uninstall Flash, you can't watch videos on YouTube... It doesn't allow you to unless you've updated Adobe Flash. Right?

Yes, that is right, I went ahead and intall flash anyway. But still using firefox as my browser. No crashes so far. Will update in a day or two

No, you don't need to install flash to watch youtube. You can use Safari extension clicktoplugin:

To be sure about the issue i suggest to reinstall Mavericks and DO NOT INSTALL Flash plug in, Java, Chrome for a while:

1. Press cmd+r and switch on the machine
2. Initialize (format) using disk utility your SSD
3. Download and install Mavericks from Apple server again
4. Repair permissions from disk utility
5. Do not install Flash plug in, Java and Chrome for a while or other staff not fully compatible with Mavericks
6. See if it freezes again...

as i wrote in my previous post some day ago...

I have a hunch it could be the Manverick power saving mode causing the freeze. Possibly it's trying to suspend Chrome plugins and processes? Possible deadlock?

Just putting more info out there. I had the EFI update installed the day it was released. No hang up problems since then until yesterday when I had my first freeze...closing the lid didn't work. I had to force a shut down.

Did u use chrome as ur browser ?

So far, not one freeze issue on this one. No image retention either.

Same here, did safe boot - flash installed - using firefox as browser (chrome still installed, but not using it). Seems like the crashes are gone

Nope. I dont even have it installed. was just using regular safari

13" macbook pro retina: all updates performed, and after a week of no hangs, it's back with a vengance. Now, closing the lid doesn't help, only a hard boot does anything.

Even if chrome is the culprit that still means there's a flaw in OSX, because a bug in a browser shouldn't crash the OS.

Anyway, if this happens it would probably be possible to log in using SSH and reboot the machine rather than doing a hard reboot.

Answer please! Someone have the same problems using Windows? Or it is only OS X bugs?

I beg to differ on that. I have been using Chrome browser all along and after the EFI update, have not had a single freeze! Chrome may be a battery hog, but that is a complete different issue!

I have never had any of the discussed browsers cause a hang up in Windows 7 or 8.
