I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

Well I have just had a similar problem with My MacBook Pro early 2011 running Mavericks 10.9.5 13F1077. The computer just would not recognise the keyboard or trackpad & restarting didn't change it. It worked on the bluetooth mouse. To my surprise after cmd+R on start up had done nothing I tried holding D on start-up to try & get the hardware check up to run & it has behaved normally every since.....

Weird!

I've got a 15" mid-2014 Retina running Yosemite 10.10.3 that is having the same problem, after half a year of excellence. At first I thought it was related to Final Cut Pro X, since that is such a suckfest anyway, but now I find the freeze can happen no matter what I'm doing. It's completely sudden -- the keyboard and mouse stop working on a dime, and I have no recourse but to do a hard reboot with the power button. It's frustrating, because when I unplug the power cord, the battery symbol in the menu bar changes, so I know the computer isn't dead, it's just stupid.

Never - I don't think they will ever fix this. Why? I have no idea.

I have turned cartwheels trying to fix the problem, to no avail. I have submitted the problem, with full documentation, to the Bug Reporter group - first in August 2015 and several times thereafter. I heard back from them in late November 2015 - not with a solution, but with a request for more information, which I sent that day. Three weeks later, I got another request (that I run a sysdiagnose and send it to them) which, again, I did. The response: none. When I first tried the various trackpad updates and etc., I got error notes indicating they could not be installed on my system. At that point, I was running OS X 10.11 'el Capitan.' So, I downgraded to OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks (13F1603) in hopes of rendering the updates installable. This didn't work either. My machine is a MacBook Pro, Retina, 13", late 2013. Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7. Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB. Originally, I had the problem when I 'upgraded (?)' to Yosemite. I had hoped that upgrading again, to El Capitan, would help. But the truth is, nothing has helped. Apple knows about the problem, but has done nothing to solve it. I'm beyond frustrated.
