The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

Just stopping by to say that issue is still here, even after Mavericks 10.9.2.

My system freezes usually after having several tabs in Chrome and open another one. Issue is happening once a day at least. It's incredibly annoying issue... I would be ok if only browser stops working, but it blocks whole system and there are coincidences such as unsaved work etc. It doesn't neccessarily means that it has to freeze in Chrome, it happened even in some other applications but there's a huge chance that happens there.

I really hope it's not hardware issue but I am sceptical after all those "software updates" without any change.

No offense, but I bought mine on day one when the new rMBP were released. I was back on page 20-40 of this issue.

When the EFI update was released, I downloaded and it has had ZERO issues since that moment.

To say that Apple has not addressed the issue is dishonest. The issue discussed at the beginning was fixed.

I'm not saying you're not experiencing issues, but what I'm saying is that tons of people have had their issue fixed through that update.

Maybe someone should start a new thread and continue to call Apple with the issues they are experiencing instead of continuing to post in this neverending thread. And call. Yes. Call them. Email them. Be nice. Talk to them like humans. It worked for me.

I made a little video for the Apple peeps to perhaps see (and anyone else here). Would be interested to know if this is the same thing that is happening to you?

First of all, I am having this problem on an 13” MacBook Pro purchased May 2011, not the new Haswell model referred to in this forum topic, but I’m inclined to believe it to be the exact same issue, read on:-

Just as mentioned by others here: This has been happening the past month, since I updated to Mavericks. I’m 90% sure this is Mavericks related though there is always a possibility it is something else.

Just as mentioned by others here: There is no problem if I am using an external USB keyboard (my usual situation). This only happens when using the laptop without a USB keyboard.

My system spec:

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1

Processor Name: Intel Core i7

Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

L3 Cache: 4 MB

Memory: 16 GB

Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B27

SMC Version (system): 1.68f99

Other things to note are that I’ve also discovered I can “encourage” this to happen if I pause typing for a second or two (see the video). Doing this I can have the lag happen every 20 seconds, of course this makes the laptop pretty much useless.

I shot this video whilst in a coffee shop today, hence I removed the sound and cropped off other bits. I actually spent a good hour closing running apps to see if I could find out if it was an app causing it, after closing virtually everything it still went on and I shot this video. Everything was stopped from things like Dropbox to printer driver processes. I have activity monitor and notepad open in the video.

I have done the suggested things like clear the PRAM. I’m not planning to re-install the OS right now as this is my main work machine and I’m just too busy to spend a couple of days re-installing. If anything, I would go back to Mountain Lion but of course prefer there to be an easier fix – Apple?

Of course, there could be more than one issue going on with peoples machines, reading past posts it seems some peoples problems were fixed by a recent EFI update. And as I said, my machine is an older model, though I have no idea how many people still have my model AND have updated to Mavericks, done all other updates, etc, or who else has found this forum topic.... maybe this is the same problem, maybe not. Sounds pretty similar to a lot of other posts I've read here though.

Then maybe you can explain to me why I'm now having that very same issue w the new one Apple gave me last month when I had had so many of the same issues w the original MacBook Pro Retina I got in October? Apple support originally tried to figure out my issue several times by phone; then I brought it in for diagnostic help and was told they weren't sure what was wrong but they tried resetting it; then problem immediately reoccurred once I got home; finally they just agreed to give me a completely new one a month ago. I woke up this morning and, yep, here I go again. It's like returning to the days of being a PC owner. The only thing I can get it to do is turn off and turn on. I've even tried the safe reboot, but that hasn't helped one bit. Couldn't get any response in safe boot mode - no buttons responded. So, it seems issue still exists and this thread should continue.

If you're having freezes still, do you use Chrome as your browser?

Seems like most of my freezes happen when I have lots of tabs open and switch to a different one.

I've also had my logic board replaced and no luck resolving the issue.

I have co-workers who bought late 2013 15" MBPr instead of 13" and they don't have the issue.

If you're in the market for a 13" MBPr do yourself a favor and don't buy it. Worst piece of Apple hardware I've ever owned.

I have a late 2013 MBPr 15" and my system freezes completely - Not just when using Chrome, though Chrome seems to trigger the OS-error more often than other programs. Yesterday Firefox and youtube made it crash - youtube opened, the video window showed up, the spinner appeared and then it froze. Had to force power down, like every other time it happened.

Well, I have the same symptoms as a lot of the people in this thread - Though it seems that there are two different kind of errors - one of them seem to disable the trackpad and keyboard - I've read that you can ssh into the machine and reboot it. When mine freezes there is NOTHING you can do, except force shutdown by pressing the power button. There is nothing in any logs about a crash. I've most often seen the issue when opening or closing a tab in Chrome, but it's by no means the only app that can bring OSX down.

I have already posted it here before but I would like to repeat that: mine late 2013 MBPr 13" froze for the first time while I was creating my user account, i.e. at the very first minutes after turning it on! The second time (before returning it) was after 2 weeks, using Safari. I am not saying that Chrome or something else does not make it worse, but my case shows that all you might need to make it freeze is to turn it on.

This was my first Macbook and, unfortunately, besides this problem I really liked it and am waiting for a fix already three months. I cannot understand how is this taking so long...

I took my MacBook Pro Retina 13 Late 2013 to the service. They took more than a week to try to get the problem but nothing happened.
I don't know what kind of test they do, but I've never trusted in that kind of services.

Anyway, I sent them the video that I recorded and they even have doubts that was really my computer! They treated me as a liar!

It really *****. Now I don't know what to do with this Mac. Don't buy a Retina. Mine ***** and they don't want to give my money back.
