I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

I havent had the problem in two days but I feel like it is going to happen again... I am basically having the same problem. My 14 days are up on Friday so if this happens again I will be returning it for something else... MacBook pro 13" retina late 2013 i5 256ssd... I need this to preform live. Having the keyboard mysteriously stop working, along with the mouse pad, and anything hooked up through the usb ports is completely unacceptale for the amount of money this unit costs me. Really dissapointed right now...

I havent had a chance to go through this whole thread. Some of the things I saw that might help others...

its a software issue. The recent update helped most but not all.

some people have had to return the unit 8 tines before they got one that did not have the same issue.

some suggest to just get another model

apple knows about the issue and is working hard to fix it

if you are within the 14 days of purchase date you can get replacement and your 14 days starts over again.

Forgive me if this ground has already been covered but has it been discussed as to what versions of MacBook Pros are affected by this keyboard trackpad non-responsiveness issue??? It seems that Apple thinks it's "rare" and only coupled to late 2013 Haswell 13 inch MacBook Pro Retinas. I have an early 2013 (pre-Haswell) 15 inch MacBoo Pro Retina and since installing Mavericks some time back I've had two instances (but only 2) of exactly what others describe here. While perusing around, suddenly the trackpad ceases to function and I find that the keyboard is dead as well. I've recovered both times by holding down the Power Key (which works) until shutdown and then restarting. Once I used my Bluetooth to restart the machine but when it came back up it was still a no go on trackpad and keyboard. Only a full shutdown fixed those two occurences for me.

Any thoughts on whether Apple really believes this issue is only with late 2013 13-inch Pro Retinas?? thanks.. bob

I took mine in today and had no problem exchanging the whole unit. I was within the 14 days though. They seemed to know of the issue and after they checked my logs they aknowledged something was happening that shouldnt be. They were even more recptive to exchanging it because they could study what happened.. or so they said. I have had it on for about 4 hours now with no problems while I reinstall software etc. Also my 14 days renewed so if something happens again I can take it back. The first thing I did before aything was update the OS. Right now I am feeling very confident. While I had to go out of my way to replace the macbook, and the apple store expience is very very weird, they did help me quickly and asked very few questions. Overall I am happy ATM. I hope this one doesnt prove to be a lemon like the last one....
