I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

Just to update, I saw the Genius Bar today. The bloke stated he'd never heard of a similar problem in the past although - given what then followed - I'm suspicious that's untrue and what I was fed is the company line from Apple to stop rumours spreading of an unexplainable relatively widespread problem. He didn't agree that a 192 page forum thread might indicate the problem is an established one.

Anyway, without seeing the fault occur or accepting my offer of watching a video of it on my phone, he immediately said that he didn't think it was fixable and suggested an exchange. A quick hardware check found no problems and he immediately called Currys to advise them that I'd be heading over there and - if I'd bought the machine in the Apple Store - I'd be offerred an exchange rather than an investigation of the fault.

Currys duly obliged and I'm typing this on a new machine.

All in all, very good customer service but with more that a whiff of a cover up!

I got mine shortly after the haswell launch late 2013 and have suffered these problems. I have touch wood not suffered any freezing problems since I took it in to store and they rand hardware tests and updated directly from Apples store... Not sure if this will be a permant fix but take it in say you'd like them to update it, it's worked for me so far.

Interesting, I got mine shortly aftre the launch as well (15", 16GB, 512GB), and I've had several (6-7ish) total system freezes (crashes?) and yesterday a keyboard/trackpad lockup but with the system clock still ticking.

It may be coincidence, but I've only noticed these crashes/lockups when I've been using the trackpad for a while (I normally use an external Magic Mouse, in which case the system can go for weeks problem-free).

Another possible coincidence is that I normally sleep the laptop using menu -> sleep, but many of the crashes have been sometime (hours/days) after I've just closed the lid to sleep the computer.

manoslag, I think this message https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5481839?answerId=25264437022#25264437022 from Oli.S7, and this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5481839?answerId=25589618022#25589618022 from facelikeanrsspretty much say it all: Apple is not going to do anything about it, except exchange affected units.

So anyone who is still experiencing these symptoms with their late 2013 13" rMBP, should contact Apple before their warranty expires.

This discussion is starting to be funny. We know very well that in the beginning the new Macbook Pro 13" Late 2013 had problems with freeze and after the EFI update 99% of MBP 13" Late 2013 had no issues anymore but let me add some other staff... Not only the new MBP Late 2013 had this issue but also other older MBP and iMac and all these older Mac had no issue using Mountain Lion, Lion but the problem started with Mavericks release. So about the theory that some IC components inside Mac have values closed to the spec limits and they can cause this kind of issue could be real but i want to underline an important aspect because i know very well the market of semiconductor...

Do you think that Apple continue to use these IC with value closed to the spec limits inside the new assembled MBP (ex. assembled in February or March etc...) and it continues to lose money because customers give them back ?

In my opinion Apple would have asked to supplier a new "Pack" of IC with values far from spec limits and used them in the new Macbook etc... But some people continue to have this kind of issue with new assembled machines.

Maybe Apple is not using these IC in a proper way or the firmware is not total bug free and another update should come out in the future. Only Apple engineers know this... I think that there is something wrong inside Mavericks to save battery life because some older MBP had no issue before Mavericks updated...

I bought my MBPr in the end of October ( Day one), i had only one Trackpad/keyboard/freeze during my second day so i initialized SSD, reinstalled all OS X and all worked good. After the EFI updated i installed it and had no issue, until today all is working perfect, really happy with my MBPr Late 2013 13".

If you need a new machine don't hesitate to buy it because i don't think that Apple builds bad hardware... but you know, that's only my opinion. 😉
