No sound out after wake up in Mavericks

I have updated to Mavericks three days ago.

But I find that there is no sound output (headphone &speaker) after sleep, even though for 1 second's sleep.

Everytime I need to restart the computer to obtain the sound again.

Someone list the following suggested solution, but it actually does not work:

"

Close all windows and quit all applications.

Click "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.

Select Computer, then Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences

Open "Audio" folder.

Right click these two files and select "Move to Trash".

com.apple.audio.DevicesSettings.plist

com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

Close the window. Restart the computer.

"

I really really hope someone can help me to solve this problems.

Many thanks!

I'm having the same problem as everyone else.

MacBook Pro

15-inch, Mid 2009

Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB

Clean install of Mavericks, from USB stick.

I've been using it for a couple days without any issues, then today after putting it to sleep with speakers plugged into audio port, it won't make any sound. What's the best way to report this bug so their engineers see it?

So I just spoke with Apple support

They never heard of this problem.

Did SMC reset etc..

I am now doing some long term testing
1) create a new user account and see if the problme is user settings related

2) Do a safeboot and see if it happens after safeboot

3) Kill coreaudiod if it happens again

Will report back

Update from my conversation with Apple support: It is solved for me!

1) Apple support has indeed read this thread after I pointed it out and we discussed the different scenarios described, so Kudos to Mike at Apple support for taking serious intrest.

2) We found out that in Maverick booting in protected mode (press and hold shift after poewr on) renders the audio locked (this was new to apple support but reproducable)

3) In my case we found out that it was a configuration problem by creating a new user account and logging in as that user and letting that sit for a few hours. The problem did not occur.

We then went and deleted the audio seetings:

Delet both files in HD->Library->Preferences->Audio -> (both .plist files in this folder)

(It is to be noted that the file com.apple.sound..... did not exist on my machine)

I rebooted with CTRL+SHIFT+P+R and after that the problem has not returned.

I have now had 12 hours of running without any problems including multiple sleeps on coffee breaks.problem

As Mike from Apple pointed out it looks like different people have differnt problems so this may not work for you, but it did work for me. Seems old audio configs were not updated during Mavericks install in my case.

Thanks Unidev,

I found deleting these files you mentioned (HD->Library->Preferences->Audio -> both .plist files in this folder) resolved my issue. Though as other people had mentioned doing the P+R key reset had wiped their Mac's I skipped this step, I simply rebooted.

I have now done multiple restores from sleep, head phones plugged and unplugged and I'm not seeing a repeat of the issue. Prior to deleting these files I was consistently having the issue everytime my Mac entered sleep.

Model: Mid-2013 MBA i7, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM

Hope this helps others.

Cheers,

Sam
