After downloading Mavericks today my canon IP5200 printer will not connect not showing as supported on canon site do I now have to wait and see if updated software will appear?

After downloading Mavericks today I now find my printer is offline (Canon IP 5200), checked canon site and it is not yet supported. Do I have to wait now until Canon or Apple provide updated software?

Canon has stopped supporting the iP5200. So no point waiting. Also, the link that John has provided is for business copiers, not for your little inkjet.

But you can download and install the Gutenprint v5.2.9 driver suite and create the printer by selecting the Canon PIXMA iP5200 / Gutenprint driver.

Note that Gutenprint is not digitally signed, meaning that Gatekeeper will block you running the installer. To get past Gatekeeper, press and hold the Control key and then click on the Gutenprint installer. A menu will appear. Select Open. You will then be given the option to install this driver package.

Here is a link to Gutenprint

Dear Sud and John,

I experienced a similar problem. I am using a Canon iR 2018N Network printer at work and after the update it fails to recognize the printer. I deleted the printer, downloaded the new driver for OS X 10.9 and installed it again using the new driver and still no luck. Canon clearly supports this printer as a result of which they have released an update for the driver. However, the update doesnt work either.

Any ideas on troubleshooting this?

Cheers!!

Open Finder and navigate to the Desktop. Double-click the Gutenprint.dmg file to mount it. A new window should appear like below.

User uploaded file

Click on the Install Gutenprint 5.2.9.mpkg. Then press and hold the Control key and click on it again. This will make a window appear. Select Open from that window. This will now give you the option to install the driver. Select OK and let the install complete.

With the Gutenprint driver suite now installed you can add the printer. Open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add. The iP5200 will appear in the Default view of the Add window. Select it. Now click on the Use menu, click on Select Printer Software and then browse the list of drivers for the Canon PIXMA iP5200. When found select it and these press Add then OK to complete the steps.

Now see if you can print.

@John Blanchard1

This solved a problem I had on my new Macbook Pro 13" OSX w. 10.9. I can now print via USB. But not via Wireless.

On my iMac OSX 10.8, where I have downloaded the Canon utility and set it up for wireles and cabled network printing i went from a finished network configuration that did not work to one that did work once I had installed the Gutenprint driver.

So if you want to print via network it seems you have to combine the Gutenprint and the most recent Canon network utility.

Hi all, this is my first post on here but hopefully it'll solve a few problems.

I've had the same issues with the Canon IP5200 and have tried using the Gutenprint drivers but have found that the wireless functionality was poor (when connected to an Airport Express). Also, when connected via USB, the printer will not produce as good photo prints compared to when using Lion OS.

After much searching, swearing and threatening to chuck the thing through the window I've found the official Canon driver for the IP5200 on the Canon USA website: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_ip_s eries/pixma_ip5200#DriversAndSoftware

After installing, removing all previous incarnations of the printer in my printer list, I reinstalled the driver downloaded from Canon - works a charm! Both wirelessly and vis USB. All the original functions are back including ink levels, advanced options etc.

Hope this works for anyone stuck in the same rut.

Cheers

Kris
