Mail.app not working after migrating from Early 2008 MacBook Pro (Mavericks) to MacBook Pro Retina Display Late 2013

I bought a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina Display and ran Migration Assitant to transfer files from my early 2008 model MacBook Pro - both were running Mavericks at the time. Everything transferred fine with the exception of Mail.app.

The Mail folder is in the library where it is supposed to be. However, when I open the Mail.app, it prompts me to add a mail account. However, when I do, nothing happens, and if I press cancel, it exits the mail app. When I make it into the mail app, after entering my iCloud information, if I go to accounts, both my academic and iCloud accounts are already there, however, they do not show up in the Mail.app.

Any fixes would be greatly appreciated!

The Admalicious fix worked for me as well. Here's what I did exactly: I opened a Finder window. Went to the Go menu, held down the Option key so that the Library folder would show up. Selected Library. I then navigated to the Containers folder and deleted the com.apple.mail folder. I opened mail and my mail opened up as normal with all my accounts. When mail opened, it put a new com.apple.mail folder in place.

This worked for me too ( the Adamalicious fix) but I wasted a lot of time doing a lot of stupid things before I found this discussion.

Its a real shame the people at Apple subject their customers to this type of nonsense. When I first moved to Macbooks in 2009 I used Migration Assistant on my first hardware upgrade and it worked seamlessly - I bragged to all my Windows colleagues about how easy things were in the Apple world.

But I cant say I be doing that this time around - the whole Migration Assistant experience this time has been a horror show - shame on you Apple. Keep this up and you'll soon be as good as Microsoft.

But thanks to everyone who contributed to this fix.
