Massive problem with audio interface

Hi there.

I recently bought a brandnew iMac 27" Haswell i7. I encountered problems with my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface. These are buzzing, clicking and noise immediately or after 3 minutes or so. I tried everything, re-installed the driveres several times, nothing, really nothing worked.

Then I bought an RME Babyface audio interface - and guess what? It's the same problem. I also have a massive sound noise after some minutes or the recording channel in Garage Band drops completely.

What is wrong here? I already tried using a different power plug, tried all USB ports, turned off WiFi, HDD sleep mode, etc. Nothing worked.

Do you have an idea?

I appeciate your help,

Adrian.

Downloaded 10.9.2 official release. Installed. rebooted. Brief initial test = good.

Late 2013 iMac, 3.5GHz I7 processor 16 Gb RAM, 3Tb Fusion drive + Motu Ultralite Mk3 with v1.06 firmware + Motu driver version 1.5 (build 59644)

iTunes playback OK

Garageband playback via USB OK

Garageband record via USB OK

Garageband playback via firewire OK

Garageband record via firewire OK

Haven't had a chance to do a proper soak test, but so far it's a lot better than it was.

I installed the beta yesterday and can confirm that it fixed audio dropouts on my firewire audio interface as well as USB completely locking up when using a USB audio headset on Skype calls.

I have not yet tried any recording (since my machine is under 1 week old, I haven't even started doing the licensing dance with all my software on the new machine). But this update has me thinking that I will not

need to return the machine.

Hey all,

I'm running a September 2013 imac with NO fusion drive, and was having issues with USB audio since day 1. Could not go more than about 1 minute on playback or recording without severe high-pitched glitching (sounded like on the fly sample rate conversion with terrible clock). It always corresponded to a spike in "Idle Wake Ups" for the Coreaudiod process in activity monitor.

Since installing the 10.9.2 update, I was able to listen to about 40 minutes straight of music with no issues whatsoever. I was rejoicing!

However, I've been sitting on the Diablo 3 login screen for a little while waiting for the servers to come back up, just enjoying the background music, and the glitching has returned. Much less frequent than before, to be sure, but it is still there. I'm considering returning this machine for a refund, as my old iMac still works perfectly fine for all purposes but audio recording/mixing, which is the only reason I bought a newer model.

My problems also seem to be resolved with 10.9.2. I still have to do some longer tests of recording and playback (I've only done several minutes so far, but before I couldn't even get through 3 seconds). I am really hopeful this is it!

I have a Core i7 3.5 GHz, 1TB Fusion Drive, 16 GB RAM.

I successfully recorded and played back several minutes of audio using an Mbox 3 Pro Firewire interface (with Thunderbold adapter), in conjunction with Pro Tools 11, iTunes, and ScreenFlow.

Well, no more dropouts with 10.9.2, no more interruption while making music.

But it's weird because I still have little crackles (very tiny, I only hear them when there is silence in the room). However, I don't hear these crackles when I use the headphones plugged on the audio interface. So maybe it's the monitors but I don't have this problem at all when I use my 2010 Macbook Pro.

If anyone has a clue about this...

Setup:

iMac 21.5 i7 3.1GHz 1TB Fusion Drive

Apogee Duet Firewire w/ thunderbolt adaptor

You don't have anything plugged into the headphone out on the imac do you? I discovered there's a small gounding issue with that jack (I've been through 3 imacs due to dodgy screens and all the same). I noticed this when using the headphone out for the last few weeks until this fix.

When using headphone out to monitors I got faint crackle. When using just headphones I didn't. I suspect it's because monitors are more sensitive and are actively amplifying the signal (inc crackle)

I was able to overcome it but buying an isolation transformer for the audio path. That's redundant now the fix is here and I can use my MOTU... but anyway if you have something in the headphone jack unplug it and see if that helps.

Hi all

On a 2013 Mac Pro with Fusion drive (had it in the studio less than two hours) and a Presonus VSL 1818. Running the latested Mavericks update (10.9.2) and my Presonus is unusable. Static and distortion. So, even the latest Mavericks update isn't fixing this for me.

I see Presonus as declared several products in their line simply incompatible with some Macs. Can anyone tell me what audio interfaces seem to be working? I guess I am going to have to switch interfaces....

Thanks

i had the same problem as you, the guy i was talking to at presonus basically told me to give up and return the machine, that the problem with presonus products and late 2013 macs has to do with USB compatibility, not an OS issue. i exchanged it for a focusrite scarlett 2i2 and since 10.9.2 came out yesterday i have had no problems with distortion.
