Massive problem with audio interface

Hi there.

I recently bought a brandnew iMac 27" Haswell i7. I encountered problems with my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface. These are buzzing, clicking and noise immediately or after 3 minutes or so. I tried everything, re-installed the driveres several times, nothing, really nothing worked.

Then I bought an RME Babyface audio interface - and guess what? It's the same problem. I also have a massive sound noise after some minutes or the recording channel in Garage Band drops completely.

What is wrong here? I already tried using a different power plug, tried all USB ports, turned off WiFi, HDD sleep mode, etc. Nothing worked.

Do you have an idea?

I appeciate your help,

Adrian.

Hellow fellow audio sufferers!

iMac 2013 3TB Fusion, 32GB RAM, i7, etc.

Audio interface: Apogee Digital Duet 2

10.9.2 has fixed a lot of problems, such as the crackling and popping that would slowing creep in while doing other tasks. Usually, the only fix was to switch to internal speakers for a bit or unplug the device to get some semblance of clear audio. THAT part is muc better.

Still having occasional "drop outs" where audio will stop or cut out for a second or two only to return as usual.

I'm thinking that maybe this is also a Duet 2 Firmware issue that needs to be addressed to coincide with Apple's update? Would be nice to have clear audio without worry, like the good ole days.

Anyone else have a Duet 2 and have this going on?

Brian, I have the same setup as you except I am using an Mbox 3. I get constant CPU error messages with Pro Tools 10 & 11 during recording and playback.

Because of this whole fusion drive stuff, I am really considereing getting a new audio interface. The duet 2 is my first option, but I don't want to get a whole new interface and end up having the exact same problems that i had with the Mbox.

So if you could help me out here, it would mean so much to me and potentially save me hundreds of dollars and more than a month of time (returning FD iMac for one without FD)...

I'm just wondering if you get any error messages or if you have any problems with the duet 2 & Pro Tools.. 10 or 11... during playback or recording.

And if you have any problems with Ableton Live 9 at all. Don't know if you use it, but would be helpful to get this info!

Please help me out if you can! 🙂

100% fix for Focusrite Scarlett on iTunes, Logic Pro X. Incredible piece of lucky timing - I bough the 2i2 Tuesday and it was a horrible mess and I was about to pack it up and return it (because Apple said the problem was with Focusrite drivers) when *pop* out came 10.9.2 and the problem magically disappeared. Using a late 2013 iMac Fusion with 24gb ram.

Ian,

I do not receive any CPU error messsages. Only the occasional drop outs in playback audio, but that even seems very infrequent. Running more real time tests. I recommend the Duet 2 by all accounts, it's a great piece of hardware. I have no issues recording and mixing within Garageband.

Have not used Ableton Live 9.

But I can say 10.9.2 is a HUGE improvement in the audio user experience and I'm on the 3TB Fusion Drive.

Wish you the best!

10.9.2 has done nothing for me. My problem has never been popping and/or crackling, it's the intermittent audio STUTTERING that is driving me crazy (can sound like a machine gun at times). It'll be fine for 10 mins and then rat-tat-tat-tat-tat for about 10-20 secs and then be fine for another 10 mins or so. Lather, rinse, repeat. I have patiently waited for the 10.9.2 release that was supposed to fix this, now I'm ******. I've been itching to upgrade to Logic Pro X but I will definitely be holding off now.

Late 2012 27" iMac 3.4 GHz i7, 1TB Fusion Drive, Apogee Ensemble connected via Firewire 400 using a thunderbolt dongle.

I bought this machine to use as my sole music composition machine. Now it's just a $2700 browser and mail reader.

Come on Apple !!!!

Well ... well ... well. I may have been a bit premature with my rant. Somehow, I either unloaded my drivers and forgot to load them back up or they didn't install correctly in the first place. After going through Apogee's uninstaller and then re-installing them again, all is well (at least for the last 45 minutes or so). NO STUTTERING!! I'll keep an eye on this for the next couple of days and if it stays like this I'll be off to the Appstore for Logic Pro X. Yay!
