Home Sharing not working - iTunes 11.1.2 / iOS 7.0.3

For/If somebody who uses iTunes Home Sharing - has home sharing stopped working for you after updating to iTunes to 11.1.2 or OS X Mavericks? Both of those updates were released and applied on the same day. Before these two updates, it was working fine. Just trying to figure out which is possibly the problem and how to fix it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

BEFORE

OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5

iTunes 11.1 or 11.1.1

AFTER

OS X Mavericks

iTunes 11.1.2

Devices on the Network

(Device ... Operating System ... Network Connection Type)

Mac Mini ... OS X Mavericks 10.9 … Wired

MacBook Pro(MBP) ... OS X Mavericks 10.9 … Wi-Fi

iPhone 5 ... iOS 7.0.3 … Wi-Fi

iPhone 5 ... iOS 6.1.4 ... Wi-Fi

iPad 3rd Gen … iOS 7.0.2 ... Wi-Fi

The Home Sharing is still working fine between the OS X devices (Mac Mini and MBP). But none of the iOS devices detect either of the Home Sharing Libraries (Mac Mini and MBP library). Also, since all three iOS devices are running three different iOS versions, i dont believe it is not an iOS problem.

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.3

Reporting in to indicate the home sharing is still working fine. I had to up the Sleep timer to 10 hours though as I found one morning that the problem came back. The Apple TV is now running 24 x 7 no problems.

Now awaiting Apple to fix iTunes and/or Mavericks but I suspect as this problem happens with iTunes and Windows 7/8, it is most likely an iTunes issue.

I just wanted to add to this thread that after updating to iTunes 11.1.4.62 in Win 7, my home sharing with Apple TV quit working. Prior to that I had intermittent success up until the point I assigned fixed IP addresses for my Win 7 PC and the Apple TV. With fixed IP addresses the connection was always solid through multiple power cycles over a 2 month period. The 11.1.4.62 update broke that functionality. I tried many things listed in other posts regarding Windows firewall and router settings making sure that itunes and bonjour were allowed in the firewall with no success. I then noticed the comment about disabling and re-enabling the firewall... Success!!

My Apple TV was synching to my iTunes library fine last week; however, I went away this weekend and my wife informed me that it was no longer working. When I got home, I spent over an hour combing the forums and troubleshooting with no luck. Then I realized that the iMac that my iTunes library is on had disconnected from our wifi network and chosen a neighbor's wifi instead. Once I changed back to our wifi, everything worked fine. I have removed all other wifi networks from memory so that this will not happen again.

Win7 64-bit

iTunes 11.2.2.3

As with the other successful replies, disabling the IPV6 protocol on my network adapter fixed the problem with Home Sharing. Now my iPhone, iPad, and other windows PCs can see the shared library. Previousy I tried updating iTunes, de-authorizing, reauthorizing, restarting Home Sharing, etc....none of these worked.

I was able to sync my iPhone 5S through iTunes over the network connection before disabling IPV6, so I knew there was some connectivity there. Since IPV6 seems to be confusing Home Sharing on Apple and PC devices, perhaps Apple should spend some time fixing this.

So... if I have a new MBP, should I also try disabling IPv6? I don't have any idea what that even is..... Could someone tell me what it is and whether that's what is recommended to fix this issue? The reason I have a mac was because stuff used to "just work". Didn't have to know about the behind the scenes stuff and I still don't want to. I just want to be able to watch my tv series.

Diabling ipv6 will fix your problem. It s another network protocol (not sure what it is used for but the original protocol we have been using for years is ipv4). Once you disable this on your network card, your home sharing will work again. I spent over a week in January with Apple Support and the Netgear support staff (I have a netgear nighthawk router). They all had me uninstall and reinstall iTunes, reload the firmware on my router, reset and reload my Apple TV multiple times. None of this things fixed the problem. The problem began when iTunes 11 was released. i found an obsure post on my own after exhausting every option with Apple Support and Netgear support - the post said to disable ipv6, which is normally enabled along with ipv protocol on your network card. As soon as I disabled ipv6 - home sharing was up and running and I could access movies on my Apple TV again. I started this post about this simple fix as soon as I found it.
