mail sound delayed 10.9

upgraded to 10.9, no issues at all, but now a weird thing is happening. mail notifications come in (upper right corner of screen), i hear the mail sound on my phone at roughly the same time i get the notification, and then about 30 to 45 seconds later, i'm getting the mail notification sound on my mac.

the email is in the inbox before the mail sound on my mac.

all software is up to date.

My two cents. Bought my first Mac about a month ago. I loved my iPad and iPhone so much I could barely stand to be on a Microsoft OS anymore. The question we all should be asking, (and hopefully Apple support will be listening), is why doesn't Mac OS X work as perfectly as iOS on the iPad and iPhone?

Sounds like we are all using the same email accounts on all our Apple devices. If not for the perfection found in iOS we would be none the wiser as to the deficits in OS X. And this sound delay issue is so minor when compared to my issues getting my Cox.net account to receive new emails without manual intervention. Whereas the same eamil account setup on my iPhone and iPad work flawlessly.

Sorry, not trying to hijack the topic.

I totally agree with you, @dryheat, this issue is minor but:

- as someone mentioned, since OS X is quite great, we're left with the minor things to complain about, thank God (Apple, actually) for no major bugs 🙂

- the sound delay, once understood with all its causes, implies an overall slowness of Mail Activity. So, in fact, the sound delay is just a symptom of a rather bigger issue. Still "minor", but what annoys me in particular is that they had got it right in Mountain Lion and they haven't changed a lot in Mail in Mavericks, so the bug doesn't come from some "innovation", no changes/enhancements whatsoever in Mail, so there's no excuse for this bug, imho.

I've got almost the same problem but in Mountain Lion. It's not minor. In filters I've assigned a sound and color to Jane. Originally, under the same system and email version, it worked. Jane's email arrived, the notice showed up, the sound happened and the email appeared simultaneously in my inbox with the color.

Now, most of the time, the sound is delayed big time or doesn't happen at all. A few hours ago I received an email from Jane. Saw it arrive in my inbox with the color assigned -- no sound. A few hours later I wrote an email to someone else. When I sent the email (not to Jane), the assigned sound played! Didn't get a new email from Jane.

This particular account is gmail IMAP. I have about five accounts I collect from in Apple Mail. Some are POP, some are IMAP. Some are with Yahoo! and some with Comcast.

Don't think there's a way to make a filter like this in iOS. Am I wrong?

Interestingly enough, I didn't have any problem in Mountain Lion.

But what you report here, i.e. the delayed sound playing when there is some other mail activity happened to me as well, in Mavericks.

All in all, I think that the Mail Activity is quite messed up, because sometimes (default or user created) rules don't apply or apply in a weird form. And I include here the rule which triggers an Apple Script to play a sound when the count of unread messages in Inbox is greater than zero (which reportedly solved the sound delay problem - not for me).

So yes, I insist once again, Apple should solve this. And please, all of you reading this and experiencing any problem with Mail, send feedback to Apple by going to Mail > Provide Mail Feedback in your app.

As far as filters in iOS goes, from what I know, you cannot create any.

I'm sorry for moving offtopic, but regarding @mmhere's previous question, about filters/rules, I found this article today: http://9to5mac.com/2014/01/11/how-to-use-apple-mail-rules-to-automatically-filte r-out-unwanted-messages/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed %3A+9To5Mac-MacAllDay+%289+to+5+Mac+-+Apple+Intelligence%29

And it has occurred to me: once you create a rule in Mail.app (or directly on icloud.com/mail), it's automatically applied to any of your Macs/iOS devices 🙂 (D'oh...)

Hope this helps and sorry again for being offtopic.
