Before upgrading to Mavericks, when accessing screen sharing from my macbook pro to my iMac, I didn't have to grant permission.
Now when turning on screen sharing from my macbook, I have to click "Share Display", then I have to go to the iMac and click
"Share Screen". Is it really necessary to do this every time?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
Also try to connect this way:
-Open finder
-Go > Connect to Server > vnc://[othersystemip] and see if it works that way.
I've tried it both ways, no dice. As I said, this never happened with Mountain Lion,
just since I put Mavericks on the macbook. I hadn't upgraded the iMac yet, and it
still asked for permission. I don't know if you've seen it, but a screen comes up
with "Share Display" or "Log In". "Share Display" says "xxxx will be asked to grant
permission and will be able to see all activity".
I know exactly what you talking about, it's as if it was set to allow all access but request permittion first... Let's try this... Set it to allow all access and to ask for permittion and restart the unit... Try to connect and see what happens... Then set it back correctly > restart and see if issue is resolved.
I'm trying to duplicate the issue but so far no success... You mentioned that even when you try to connect to your other unit which is not yet running Mavericks you still get the same request so that means issue is for sure associated with Screen Sharing and that Mavericks Upgrade... Not sure how confortable you are with moving plists but that would be my next suggestion > create a folder on the desktop and move user associated plists which are simply the file(s) that contain the actual settings. You can also try to repair permissions but I have little faith it will work in this case.
I just got the Macbook Pro 13" Retina, and I can screen share from the imac to the macbook without granting
persmission, but from the macbook to the imac, it has to grant permission. I've checked to make sure that all the settings are the same, but still can't connect. Anybody run into this? I'm stumped.

When attempting to share the screen of another mac, and both computers are running Mavericks, and the remote computer is currently logged in as a different user than the local computer, I can still share the screen without asking the remote computer for permission, as long as I have the remote user’s login password.
After clicking Share Screen… from the local computer, I choose “Log In” (instead of “Share Display”, which will ask the remote user for permission). This takes me to the remote computer’s Login screen. Then I choose the currently-logged-in remote user and enter the password.
Make sure anyone may request permission to control screen is not checked.
System Preferences > Sharing > Screen Sharing > Computer Settings
It's not checked, but the same thing happens going from the iMac to the macbook too.
What about the Allow access for: is it set to Only these users?
It does the same thing.
I can't tell if you tried this or not, but on your MBP try connecting as if you were logging in on your iMac using your iMac user name and password.
It had no effect. I appreciate all the suggestions.

I found out that both the local and remote mac must be logged in with the same ID.
It works fine with that set up.
