Update Unavailable with This Apple ID

Loaded Mavericks then found iPhoto was locked down with following error message;

You can't use this version of application iPhoto with this version of OS X.

You have iPhoto 9.3.2

so off to App store for the only to get next error message;

This update is for an app downloaded with a different Apple ID. Sign in with that Apple ID and try again.

Am at a loss as I have only held 1 Apple ID

I just ran into same issue. I actually had two different Apple ID's at some point but I logged out and tried both and still can not update iPhoto and iMovie in Mavericks. Garageband and iDVD work fine for some reason. I read that Apple was giving people free updates to the Mavericks compatible versions but they won't update for me and I think it would be pretty lame to pay 19.99 each for apps that I have had for years now.

I just received the following message in my email from user: https://discussions.apple.com/profile/Dah•veed

"Please stop going from thread to thread posting this over and over.

This is bad ASC netiquette on your part. You are basically highjacking multiple threads with your issue and causing confusion in other folks topics. You should start your own topic and stick to it.

If I see this posted again in another thread, instead of started as your own topic, I will begin a conversation with the ASC Hosts about having your posts removed. If you persist, the next step is to have you banned from the community."

I find this message to be offensive and bordering on harrassment. I have not hijacked any threads! Stating that I ran into this issue or similar issues and looking for answers in the community is what suppor forums are all about! I have been an Apple Supporter for over 10 years and own more apple products than most people I know. It is a shame that this is how the ASC moderators treat Apple customers!

Aside from the implication that he could/would report your posts to the moderators, he brings up a valid point. Post a question in a single forum, and wait for a response. It's not like people don't participate in the forums. And, Dah-veed is a very active forum user, so his "suggestion" should carry some weight.

The forums are (as you pointed out) here for us to help one another. It is just unnecessary to post the same question multiple times in different threads.

I completely understand the point of posting questions only in one thread. I also understand that if there are existing threads with similar issues to your own, as there were from my initial search, that it is usually best practice to not create new threads dealing with the same issues if there is already an existing thread that your question would be better placed.

If you look at the two posts I made, the first being in the thread titled "Mavericks," I am explaining my situation that is similar to other users in that thread and asking for advice.

The second post being in this thread started by Sailings, was explaining that I too am running into this issue and sharing what I had read about Apple's new policy on giving free update of these Apps - which is not working for many users. Sailings tagged my post as "helpful" to his original question which should be a good indication that I was not spamming a ton of threads and trying to actively help others find a solution just as I am searching for a solution.

So I fail to see how I am somehow in violation of the ASC ettiquette. I also feel that the tone of the message from Dah-veed was pretty inappropriate for a first time offense of what in his opinion is some how hijacking rather than contributing.

For a senior member who is so active in the forums, I would hope that this is not the accepted tone taken with everyone in the forums. This message was not a polite "suggestion" as you have put it. A suggestion would have been a polite reminder of the ASC Etiquette policy with a link to those policies. It was in my opinion a very direct accusation and threat. Both of which I feel are extremely inappropriate in a professional community such as Apple's. This is not some Jo-Blo blogger site. This is the official community for Apple users and professionals. This is not a place for any of Apple customers to be bullied by Moderators with some overblown sense of importance because of their level of activity.

There is a link in the original post in a topic where you can say I also have this issue. It was put there so that the ASC didn't become confused with multiple folks asking for help in one thread and start cross conversations.

The place for you to request help is not in the middle of someone else's topic where they have already requested help and start confusing the issue with multiple conversations occurring at the same time. The place for you to request help is in your own topic, where folks will concentrate on answering your issue and any further questions that may arise, as well as other possible solutions if the first ideas don't pan out.

BTW, most of your "me to" posts have been removed.

Dah-veed,

Thank you for providing me with a more courteous and professional response this time. We are all here to help one another and get help from the community - especially with new products and upgrade issues that arise. No one wants to be treated with hostility when they are seeking help from the ASC. So I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to send me the screenshot and to explain the appropriate process on tagging posts. I will make sure I do my part in my future posts to not cause confusion for the ASC moderators or other members.

Thanks.

Dvdflashbacks, I received the same exact message from Dahveed. His condescending threatening message should be reporting for lack of "Support". It really took the "support" out of the "Apple Support Community." We're all here looking for answers and I understand etiquette, but there is a much more tactful way Dahveed should go about being, Mr. ASC Police. So far unhappy with my experience on here. Maybe the official moderators should take a further look at how he interacts with users.

Anyone ever find a solution to the original problem of:

This update is for an app downloaded with a different Apple ID. Sign in with that Apple ID and try again.?

I've tried everything scene at my original post (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5483786 ), plus reindexing, repairing disk permissions and more but still no luck with a fix.

So far nothing I have tried has solved this issue. I have tried removing all iLife apps and reinstalling from disc. The result was the same. I am prompted to update iMovie and iPhoto but can not do so from the app store. I have been able to run all other updates though without issue.

I actually could care less about iMovie because I use Final Cut Pro 7 and X for all my film/video editing projects. But not having access to my entire iPhoto library is a bit worrisome.

Disappointed on so many levels...

I am also a long time Apple user (circa 1979) and very much know my way around all things Apple: hardware, software, OSX and iOS.

The "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID" issue is pervasive, inclusive and persitant. Not the first time Apple has dropped the ball with regard to authentication issues, MobileMe springs to mind and I lived through that entire debacle.

The "solutions" I've found so far include going to bed and waking up 8 hours later to find all is well with the world or spending hours on the phone with AppleCare who will coordinate with iTunes to reset your account in some voodoo like fashion.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Apple support teams do an amazing job day to day but they clearly don't know what the issue is here either. Someone needs to own this at the engineering level and fix it. Tim Cook nudged Scott Forstall to pursue different career options over the iOS Maps screw up, I expect he will be doing the same with whom ever owns this one.

And to Dah•veed, you have been nothing short of rude and valueless with regard to your participation in this thread. People are here seeking answers and it is inherent within the Apple culture to provide support and direction to those genuinely seeking help. If you so happened to be lucky enough to work in one of the Apple Retail Stores, your attitude and approach would have led to a coaching session during which you would have been encouraged to pursue a different path. Instead of playing "police", perhaps you should use your apparent forum experience and supposed Apple expertise to provide substantive direction and/or solutions to this very real issue.

As soon as I'm aware of a fix, I'll post again, hope someone beats me to it.
