Updated to Mavericks and loud fan noise

Just done a clean install of Mac OS X Mavericks, updated fine, everything went well.

however most of the time, my macbook pro fan noise would go really loud for 5-10mins even in idle or if im on the internet just browsing.

this has not happened ever on mountain lion.

its really weird.

Does anybody know how to fix this? or is this a bug and would i have to wait for a software update?

Mine is:

MacBook Pro

13-inch, Mid 2009

Processor 2,53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

Software OS X 10.9 (13A603)

But i did what mrsir2009 suggested at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1531720

“Steps to rest the SMC on a Macintosh Laptop:

1. Shut down the computer.

2. Plug your Mac in, if not already plugged in.

3. Press (left side) Shift-Control-Option & the power button at the same time.

4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.

5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.”

Now iStat shows fan speed less than 2000rpm, instead of previous louder 3-3.5rpm. Current noise level is tolerable. Not sure if it was above magic or just reboot which made difference, idle % was and still is around 95-97.

thanks

Hello all,

I am having the same issue, constant loud fan noise in my Mac book pro. Below are the specs:

"MacBook Pro

13-inch, Mid 2010

Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

Software OS X 10.9 (13A603)"

And CPU is 90% idle.

I tried to reset the SMC using the steps:

1. Shut down the computer.

2. Plug your Mac in, if not already plugged in.

3. Press (left side) Shift-Control-Option & the power button at the same time.

4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.

5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Inaddition, i have reinstalled OS and reset PRAM memory but the problem still exists.

It really feels annoying with the fan sound. Could someone give a fix.

Hello all,

I am having also the same issue, constant loud fan noise in my Mac book pro.

Clean install on new SSD, all updates done, spotlight index is done. No special process activities on activity monitor.

My System

MacBook Pro

15-inch, Mid 2009

Processor 2,8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

Harddrive: Samsung SSD 840 Pro Series 256 GB with latest Firmware DXM05B0Q

Software OS X 10.9 (13A603)"

Did all steps to rest the SMC on my Laptop. The light on the power plug indicated a sucessfull reset.

Still the same situation, immediately when I power up the laptop the fans are going to a speed over 6000rpm.

Fan 1 Speed: 6192

Fan 2 Speed: 6204

CPU Temo (Istat Pro): 37 degrees celcius

Any suggestions? The noise is annoying.

thanx

Hi,

I have a Macbook Mid 2010 Unibody Model. I have had this laptop for around one year and have had no trouble. However, recently my laptop has begun to make a very loud whirring sound whilst the cpu is at 85% idle, and now even as I turn my laptop on, it begins to make a loud whirring noise which I believe is the fan as i have checked disk utility and it says that my hard drive is fine. The sound is coming from the middle back of the laptop. I downloaded FanControl as soon as this started happening and this is what it displayed:

The problem is that it was making more noise when it was supposedly at 371rpm as opposed to when it was at 1,810rpm. I have a dual core 2.4ghz processor, 4gb ram, 250gb hard drive and am running mavericks. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Cheers
