WiFi disconnects by it self Mavericks problems

Since I upgraded to Mavericks I have been experiencing problems with the WiFi connection. Specially when not using the computer for a few minutes. I find this very disturbing since I might want to keep connected for any purpose. Is there any change in Mavericks software that could be causing this?

I also found that Mavericks seems to be little less smooth than Mountain Lion. I don't think that would have to do with a lack of resources in the coputer.

Thanks,

So all of the above links are pre Mavericks? Thanks for the list of links but this is surely something that should be resolved by Apple not by the end user ?

I've never had any issues with wifi pre Mavericks all of sudden, its sleep iMac, wake iMac up sort wifi out. Connect, disconnect, connect etc.

From terminal if I do a ping www.google.co.uk I can watch the connection drop in and out.

Fed up of this type of issue with Apple hardware now, they where once bulletproof now it seems to be slowly losing it.

I managed to fix min past night by going into wifi in the network settings, deleting the entry for my home network, then re-creating it and moving it to the top of the list.

What I noticed was this signIficant factor: My wifi network list now contains dozens of networks, pretty much every wifi hotspot I have ever connected my iPod and iPad to over the last 4 years, and my home network was right at the end in the lowest priority spot. This must be related to the iCloud keychain and is a pretty dumb piece of design.

At one point before I fixed it my Mac Mini was taking minutes to load folder contents from a local NAS while my iPad on the same network was reporting 10 Mb/S via a speed test. My guess is that the Mac was spending 99.999% of its wifi resource attempting to connect to those other "preferred" networks (like the ones at Heathrow, Chep Lap Kok, or a Starbucks in Melbourne, to name but a few).

If this is true it's pretty staggering.

Mid 2012 Mackbook Pro

Upgraded from mountain lion to maverick and since the upgrade my wireless connection disconnects and picks up another network, and doesn't even list mine on the available networks. I have to search for available networks and then I can rejoin MY network. My password is saved, but I don't know why this is happening. I have found it happening when I "wake it up" from sleep mode, and even when the computer is awake and in between print jobs.

Not really happy, everything worked fine with mountain lion.

I had, of course, the same problem. I noticed that my MacBook Pro lost its IP address on the router when it went on power save or was disconnected. The same went with my iPad and iPhone. Initially I thought it was a router problem, but quicky found it wasn't. The solution I found is to attribute a fixed IP address, different for all the above listed devices. Since then, no problem.

The issue appears to be caused by newer versions of OS X and particular hardware, most likely an introduced software bug. If your wifi is configured with both the 2.4Ghz / 5.0Ghz frequency band and share the same SSID the disconnecting of the wifi occurred.

After trying most forum suggestions on my older newly mavericks upgraded MacBook Pro which started disconnecting the wifi every 5-30 seconds.

Solution for me for now was to go onto my AirPort Extreme / airport express and reconfigure the 2.4/5.0 Ghz bands to have different SSID's. Open airport utility, click edit, advanced, changed 5.0Ghz SSID to something different, reboot.

I am able to connect to either band and no dropping issue.

Apple still needs to fix OS X but this work around will do for now.

Hope that helps!
