Hi Jackmurph1,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

If your iPhone isn't powering on completely, try these steps from our iPhone hardware troubleshooting article:

iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off

  1. Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
  2. Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
  3. Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
  4. After at least 30 minutes, if:
    • The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen User uploaded file. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
    • The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
    • Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
  5. If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
    • If the display turns on, go to step 4.
    • If the display remains black, go to next step.
  6. Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
  7. If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Best Regards,

Jeremy

The dreaded flashing Apple logo just happened to me. Yesterday, I went for a jog using Nike+ app while listening to music via JBL bluetooth headphones. All of a sudden it shut down. I powered it back on and the Nike+ app resumed recording my run. Then it shut down again! This time, after I powered it back on, the weirdest thing happened. A kernel screen came on showing programming code that filled up the entire screen.

I am running the latest iOS (iOS 8) on the iPhone 5 and latest iTunes (Yosemite). Just got back from the Apple store (Portland, OR) and the rep. told me because my phone is out of warranty they couldn't give me a replacement phone. Option A = Buy a new iPhone 5 for $260. B = Buy a newer iPhone (5C, 5S, 6, 6+) C = Beg, borrow, or steal another iPhone (I threw in the 'steal' part).

Frustrating. I have been an iPhone user since the 3rd gen. phone and never had this kernel-flashing thing happen. So much for trying to sell my working iPhone 5 32GB on craigslist to pay for an upgrade.

If you trust some tools like FonePaw iPhone Data Recovery, you can use it to help you fix this issue actually.

To fix iPhone stuck on Apple logo with this program, you can follow the steps below:

Step 1: Run the program on your computer after downloading and installing it. Then connect your iPhone to the computer..

Step 2: For Windows version users, please choose “Restart the device” and then your device will go back to normal in a moment after rebooting. For Mac version users, please click “Start”, then your iPhone is back to normal.

Hope it helps!

Apple is intentionally locking IPhones in order to sell new IPhone 6's. There has been heavy pressure on me to trade in my IPhone 5 which is qualified for an upgrade but I have been consistently saying no, why should I, It's working. NOW, you guessed it. When I plugged in my cell phone to the computer to transfer photos, Apple's Itunes took control and forced me into upgrading the operating system before transferring the photos. In the process they said my system could not be updated and locked me out with an "Itunes and charging cable" that defies removal.
