I am having this exact same issue on a 2011 mabook pro OS X 10.7.5.

It just stays stuck in LaunchPad with a progress bar below, but there is nothing that shows MB progress like your screencap: "171.6 MB of 5.29 GB"?? Even though it is in Launchpad, doesn't show up at all in Downloads folder. Received an error message that App Store cannot detect an internet connection even though I have perfect connection and have logged in and out several times in the App Store to make sure it wasn't saving an old password.

When I received the intenet connection error, i made sure to check the password and it as correct.

Despite the Launchpad still showing no progress, I am able to see that my available hard dick space is depleting so I assume the OS is downloading snd just not displaying the progress. I can only hope the install prompts upon completion or that it appears in Applications upon completion.

Thanks Laurab23

Please start your Mac in "Safe Mode" according to these instructions:Starting up in Safe Mode

Note the following:

  • Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components.
  • Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
  • Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
  • To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

While in "Safe Mode" see if you can download Mavericks from the App Store. If you still can't, there will be other things to check.

When it finishes downloading, quit the installer. Do not install it yet.

After you restart your Mac the prompt to install Mavericks will reappear every time, so when it does, close the window every time. If that becomes tiresome you can drag the installer icon to the Trash. You can always drag it back out again, just don't empty the Trash.

The fact that it is not downloading normally is a clue that something is wrong that should be fixed before installing Mavericks.

Kpaul95,

I

I've started my computer in Safe boot like John said but only this didnt solved my problem, so, i started in safe mode and repair my disk permissions, after that i relaunch my mac to normal mode and repair the permissions again and it worked for me

to repair your disk permissions you should:

  • To launch Disk Utility, search for it via Spotlight or navigate your way to it via this trail: Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
  • Next, click on your hard drive from the left panel of the Disk Utility window
  • With your hard drive selected, click the Verify Disk Permissions button. Disk Utility will scan your hard drive, looking for permissions that are out of whack. It should take a few minutes to perform the scan, and if you have the Show details button checked, you'll see any irregularities as they're found during the scan.
  • When the scan is complete, you can review any of the permissions issues it found in the window in the middle of the Disk Utility window. To repair these issues, click the Repair Disk Permissions button. Disk Utility will again run through a scan, repairing the identified permissions issues. Once it has completed the task, you can close Disk Utility

I hope this works for you.
