Display issues after installing Mavericks

Have an iMac mid 2007 and installed Mavericks. However am noticing areas on the screen where there are moving diagonal lines (the best way I can describe it) and also on certain background colours like light grey there is a horizontal pin stripping effect.

I have reinstalled a clean copy of Mavericks twice and also reinstalled a clean copy of Mountain Lion to check for this issue but no sign of it in Mountain Lion at all.

Have been on to AppleCare and they have had me reset the SMC and PRAM and also repair permissions and repair disk as general troubleshooting but the problem still persists. They have said to try downloading the installer again for Mavericks, which I am currently doing, incase there is something wrong the first copy although installed and works fine on my MacBook.

Just wondered if anyone else had had this issue either using an iMac Mid 2007 with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256mb or later model?

I am wondering if it may be something to do with the driver included with Mavericks for my graphics card?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

danthemanuk, as you suggested I contacted apple care. they said to me to create another admin account and try... naturally it didn't work... then they said to take my imac to an apple store to verify any hardware issue..

we all know it's impossible that all of us have the same hardware issue started after mavericks installation...

so... let's hope apple will patch this as soon as possible!

regards

Hopefully this will be something they can patch. I might be going over an Apple Store next Sunday and will take my iMac so they can have a look. After I had tried the troubleshooting and other people started reporting issues on this discussion, the AppleCare rep said they would actually need to see the problem first hand so they could investigate it further. There is only so much they can do via the online chat and the original thought of it being a hardware issue related to my iMac is probably incorrect.

For those who mentioned changing the profile - I have tried that and although it does make the problem less visible it makes the image on screen look horrible with the tinting etc.

I have also tried the calibrate display option but again no luck with that.

I still think it might be something to do with the ATI driver they are using in Mavericks.

Same problem on an iMac 2007 (ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro); changing color profile only makes the problem less visible but it does not fix it and the blueish tint is rather horrible. As far as i remember, our iMac's have a low quality LCD display with a real colour bit depth of 6 bit and the apparent 8 bit color depth is obtained via dithering. Can it be a dithering issue ?

I agree with silver76 - the more of us that contact AppleCare the more likely it will be that this issue will get picked up and hopefully fixed.

You can do what I did and use the chat support even if you are out of warranty. Just request an exception to the usual one off fee for support. I also sent them a link to this support thread in the hope they might take a look.

Hopefully I will be taking my iMac to Apple Store this weekend for a Genius to have a look at so will keep you all posted.
