Since OS X Mavericks install, app store, terminal, preview and other apps do not open.

After clicking on the icon you get one bounce and then nothing. I have booted into safe mode and used an external app to run scripts but still nothing. Anyone else having these problems?

The startup disk may need repairing ...

Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)

If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.

From there you can access the built-in utilities to repair the disk using OS X Recovery

Backup all important files before restoring OS X.

Sorry Pete, I think our wires are crossed a bit. Mavericks did install and runs, but not perfectly. Since the install I cannot open app store, terminal, preview, mail, maps and there will probably be a few more once I start to open them all up. The icon for each of these apps does a single bounce and then nothing. I have tried to create a new user account but the same problems exist. If I have to do a clean install, I will but I am trying to avoid that.

Cheers

There is not a tip or trick or anything Apple could do to help us on our Mac, they are going to talk to an "engineer", it's been 4 days now. There is still no help. Creating a guest account allows it to work. The repair permissions, disks, reinstalling etc, nothing helped and when I installed Mavericks, I did not receive any error messages. Now I'm supposed to wait a few more days. Sent from my Ipad

Yep, I just clicked to that. Sorry. I would reinstall Mavericks. I have seen installs play up like this before and a reinstall sometimes fix the issues. Backup first of course.

Hi,

try opening your own thread and let us know what exactly your issues are. You can get bogged down in someone else's thread, especially if it has lay dormant for a couple of weeks.

etresoft a long time contributer to Apple Support Communities wrote a very useful app he called etrecheck which helps in diagnosing many problems caused by third party installs etc.. Go to his website, read his information and from there download and run the program according to his instructions
