Anyone getting graphics corruption in OSX Mavericks?

I am sorry to see this thread... I was hoping to find a solution and not commiserate with others affected with this problem. The issue of graphics corruption in various application windows has gotten substantially worse for me today. With no particular changes. It would happen occasionally before. I tried disabling the memory compression, but that had no affect. It very much feels like a graphics driver issue. I wonder if I an pull the ATI drivers from a 10.8 OS if that would help? Maybe I'll try another video card. Or if I have to, I'll downgrade back to 10.8, but that will be a real bummer due to the poor SMB performance on 10.8. I'm on a Mac Pro so the laptop screen setting solution don't apply to my situation either.

2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Xeon

20 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB

OSX 10.9.4 build 13E28

1 TB SSD Boot Drive

Updated to 10.9.5, it did not help. I got video scrambling immediately after boot.

Replaced video card with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB, so far that seems to have solved to video corruption issues.

Will keep testing.

It looks like Apple may have finally fixed this issue in the Yosemite beta.

It just occurred again. I may just live with it at this point. One occurrence every couple of weeks with a newer video card. Much better than before where it would happen every few hours. If I have time ,I'll put my old video card in with a Yosemite beta and post back.

I have been running for 24x7 for 2 weeks on the Yosemite beta and have not had any significant display problems yet. Previously, the display issue would show up for me after only a few hours of use.

I just updated to OS X 10.9.5 on a 2010 MBP model 6,2

- when i launched into Diablo 3 last night, the garbled

screen didnt momentarily appear - so i'm banking that

the graphics issue has been addressed further

or even fixed, touch wood 😉

So can we safely say that Yosemite is the fix and download the Beta version?

I am new to this discussion although I read from page 1 to pg. 15 and I feel for Steve H. who has been struggling with this problem valiantly for a very long time.

It just started for me 2 days ago when I downloaded a demo of Pixelmator and tried it out. Now I restart, reset the PRAM and every so often the problem start up again. Awful stuff. After hearing everyone else's pain with this problem I feel bad complaining about mine. I am on a 2009 iMac with ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB. I guess that's the problem too old too small a pipeline. I don't know if I can afford to upgrade the graphics card. Apple Warranty long since gone.

I will try a hard restart--i.e. unplugging and waiting. If that doesn't work, I am wondering if I should take the plunge and try out Yosemite. I am on the final leg of completing my book. Couple of more images to fix in order to mail this puppy off so I don't want to do anything too drastic like test out like beta test a new system. Clearly, something that makes heavy use of the graphics card kicks off the problem and then its hard to shake off...or so it seems from all these reams of pages of posts.

No, 10.9.5 is not Yosemite, and it is not a Beta.

I still have these issues even with 10.10 production. I have 2010 17" MBP.

NB I see artefacts on the macbook screen when I'm plugged into a second monitor. It ain't pretty to say the least.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I can confirm that Yosemite 10.10 has not fixed the problem on my

2010 15" model MBP 6,2 -

I am still getting sporadic patches of garbled text

on web pages & windows as well as distortion on images etc.

- but it seems momentary - once I refresh a web page for instance, it clears up.

I'm really disappointed that this issue has not been addressed - through one

whole OS cycle at Cupertino and even carried over to the following one.

It seems unprecedented for Apple to let us down, in such a manner.

You've ggot a Mac with a known graphics card fault from the factory. No update is going to fix it.

Why don't you do a little more research... Yes the 2010 has had some hardware issues. This problem is not related to that. Many people have reporting continuing problems after replacing the system board.

This is an issue that for most people did not show up until the exact day they installed 10.9 (including myself). The most likely cause of the graphics corruption is memory compression that was introduced in 10.9. Disabling memory compression makes the problem go away. Additionally, the issue appears to have greatly improved with 10.10; however there are still occasional glitches. I can run problem free for several days (where before I could only go a couple of hours), but then a minor glitch will show up now in 10.10. The glitch will show up and then quickly go away when you do a screen refresh - this is much better than with 10.9. In this case, a software update made a BIG improvement, but there is still a minor underlying issue that needs to be fixed in the software.

There are two work arounds:

1. Disable Automatic Graphics Switching in System Preferences > Energy Saver

2. Run the following command in the terminal

sudo nvram boot-args="vm_compressor=1"

I have to agree with goalie fight on this one - besides, I bought mine from the refurb store

where everything is sorted and checked over thoroughly. I bought it well after the hardware issues

became apparent. So, in all probability I have a replacement graphics card.

Otherwise, the MBP is fine. I do notice that, when I launch a game, I often get a full

screen of a collage that momentarily appears & then disappears – fragments of web pages, emails, app windows etc. that were previously

closed - so it has something to do with memory cache. That seems to indicate

an OS or graphics driver problem.

My daughter has one. The logic board was replaced. Works just fine with Mavericks.

The Mid 2010 15” has got problems.

I am also having this problem and I have macbook pro late 2011 with Yosemite installed.
