Hi SpensafGB,
You and I may no longer fit Apple's prime demographic profile.🙂 They've got to go where the growth is, and right now that's on mobile.
If you're travelling, say, and there's no Mac available and you don't have an iPad, it can be really convenient to log into any computer and access and make changes to a document.
If they had sold us a bill of goods on a paid upgrade (or downgrade or outgrade or whatever you want to call it) I'd be venting too. But they've given us something new for free. I recommend sending them constructive comments via Menu>Provide Numbers Feedback. Maybe things will get better for Mac users.

For now the only option is:
- Select the data range + Command C (copy)
- create a new table
- paste the data command V (paste)
- Sort the data: column head + select small arrow + select sort ascending or sort descending
- Copy the sort data
- Paste in your original table
.. and that's it
ABSURD BUT IT WORKS
And apple guys ..... repair that crap !!!
OsfefusaBoca,
If you're often having to do that kind of thing, the way you organize your spreadhsheets may need some rethinking.
Also, it seems you are not aware that quite some time ago Apple announcedin this support document some features, including range sort, that will be reintroduced in the coming months.
There is no need to use scatological language here in the discussions. We're users, just like you, and some of us find it offensive.
If you have something you want to discuss with Apple, in your menu go to Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback.
