MacBook Air not wake up after sleep

Hi,

My MacBook Air(Mid 2012) can't wake up after sleep. I recently updated operation system to Mac OS X Mavericks and now after sleep mode screen goes black and nothing happens after this. Only thing that I could do is hard reboot by pressing power button and boot again. Do anyone have the same issue and suggestions how to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Dmitrii

Hi:

Mine is on 10.9.4. I said earlier that if my MBA 11 started having trouble again I would write and inform people on this thread. I put it into the shop about three weeks ago and when it came back after they did the firmware updates it was fine.

It is doing it again. As it goes to sleep if you touch the trackpad, the mouse pointer will stay visible but the screen is black for about 30 seconds until it recovers.

I think really, to me, anyway, it is just proving that this is a hardware issue that should have resulted in MBA machines being recalled and fixed. Multiple attempts at software solutions have been tried without success. They work fine for a while then the problem comes back.

I contacted Apple support who said that Apple is aware of this issue and is still working on further fixes for it.

In the meantime they said the temporary fix is to reset the SMC when the problem happens. This obviously fixes it for a month or so before the same problem happens again.

It is surprising though isn't it that a year later, numerous fixes and it still isn't fixed. Imagine if this happened to Microsoft? Well, it probably wouldn't as they test things to destruction. While not a fan of Windows 8, I've always given them kudos for software engineering standards and testing both of which are superior to Apple.

I know why your macbook air is happening something like that.

there are 2 reason that migh cause your Macbook air can't wake up after sleep..

1. when you close the lid of the macbook air, the logo light(screen) turns off, you might think your macbook air is in sleep mode, but actually not, your mac is still working, and it was trying to sleep, and it take about 5 minute if your work on your macbook air very hard like processing big game or application to actually turn to sleep mode, and when you try to wake it when it is trying to sleep, it don't know what should do so it turn to like some "stupid" mode

2.your software have problem, when i say software i mean Mac operation System(Mac OS), try hold Comman-Option-R when you are booting your computer, then it will led you to reinstall your OS, it take some time to download the system(about 4hour)

I hope i help you...= =

Hi All,

I think this workaround solved my problem (Macbook Air mid-2013 on OS X 10.9.4) :

Just enter this command in Terminal mode :

$ sudo pmset -a standbydelay 0

As far as i understand (i'm not an Apple engineer), it forces the Macbook to go into hibernation instantatly when you shut the lid down, instead of simple energy saver mode (Power Nap?) for a few hours as configured by default, what state was systematically crashing after a few minutes/hours when the machine is unplugged.

The laptop took a few additional seconds to wake up but no random crashes and reboot while sleeping since one week, no files corruption fear anymore...

My 2cts,

Anthony

Hi all,

I'm running 10.9.4. MB Pro 15. I have a work-around for this problem (works for me anyway).

Symptoms:

- close lid : MBP goes to sleep (or hibernate, I'm not sure how to tell).

- open lid : MBP displays shows, trackpad and keyboard are not responding

Work-around: connect a USB mouse and move it a bit. This will wake-up te MBP and will restore the keyboard and trackpad (USB mouse can be removed again).

I hope this helps.

Bittebak

P.S.

This is my 3rd MBP and the most unstable one so far (it freezes completely a few times per month).

Still waiting for a fix for this ... for the past 6 months I have generally been avoiding sending my MBA into sleep by shutting the lid; however over the past couple of weeks I have done it occasionally and on two occasions it has failed to wake from sleep and required a long-hold power key restart. Both of these were while on battery power only.

Anyone else still having this problem?
