I don't have a fix for this problem, but I DO have a work-around....

If you want to easily read the email, just select the email the click REPLY. The reply window correctly wraps the email text and it can then be easily read!!!

If the reply window can do this, then it should be an easy fix for Apple to do the same for the preview pane and opening the actual email.

Excellent suggestion, fed-man; thanks for the tip. Given Apple's disinclination of late to resolve problems such as this, your workaround may well wind up being the permanent solution.

I found the using the following fixed-width font worked for me.

@farside - i tried this, does not work for me (Mail 7.2 on 10.9.2).

Not fixed in 10.9.3 update!

What I just found is highlighting the unwrapped text and clicking the forward button displays the message properly wrapped in a new message. I can read the email there without having to resend the email to myself. If I actually do resend the message, the received message does not appear in a wrapped form like the sent message but unwrapped like the original.

No fix in the OSX 10.9.4 update. Seems to be the same version of Mail (7.3) and some emails still don't word-wrap.

This has got to be fixed!!!! I'm baffled as to how this wasn't addressed in this release. We need to be able to read all of the email message without clicking anything.

Apple please setup and patch this ASAP!

Agree with Csound1, this have never been an issue for me.

Your Viewing preferences look different. Do you have version 7.3 on OS X 10.9.5?

This is obviously an issue as many above in this thread aren't able to read the full message.

As you can see it is nasty....

I'd have to re-install Mavericks to get screen prints for you, but it definitely wasn't an issue with any version of Mail, all through every point release of Mavericks.
