Constant autosave error in new keynote (6.0)

I just started using 6.0 after upgrading to Mavericks, with a new presentation.

Every few minutes, an alert pops up to say that the document "...could not be autosaved. The file has been changed by another application. Click Save Anyway to keep your changes and save the changes made by the other application as a version, or click Revert to keep the changes from the other application and save your changes as a version."

I haven't opened Keynote on any other machines or devices, or made any changes elsewhere. I did originally check the 'documents' box on iCloud's setup preferences, so it could sync across devices. Thinking this might be the culprit, I have unchecked it - but the error keeps coming.

This must be an embarassingly obvious cloud/keynote newbie error. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I had this problem quite often too and it was making me crazy. The solution I found is really non-intuitive. I had opened my keynote file using the finder and I still had the file selected by the finder as I was working on it. If you change what is in your finder window to be something else other than the keynote presentation (I usually go to a completely different folder) it seems to stop it.

I verified this by looking at what was happening in the Console. With the file selected and me working on keynote I was getting tons of errors. Once it wasn't selected the errors disappeared. Good luck!

I wish I could say that it has helped, but it has not. This is so frustrating I cannot believe it. My only alternative seems to be to go back to using PowerPoint. Prior to this problem, Keynote was altering files so that they were unreadable. The only solution to that problem was removing Keynote from my Mac and reinstalling it.

But I am ready to have a coronary over this issue!

Is there a real, bulletproof resolution?

Me and at least one other Tumult Hype user are getting this same warning and option to Revert or Save Anyway. I'm on OSX 10.9.2 but don't use any Apple apps (except iTunes) nor iCloud but I use Dropbox which I turned off to test for this but I still usually get the warning...and I made sure the file and the app wasn't selected in Finder while I was working on it (I always just start Hype from the Dock and the previously open files are there).

If it helps to find the issue, I have my OS and apps on an SSD and files are on an 'extended, journaled' hard drive. I'm working in 3 Hype files located in the same folder, but 2 of them save normally while the other gives this warning...and Hype also auto-saves every few minutes like the Apple apps.

One anomally is that I don't get this save warning every time but I can't find a difference in the circumstances between when it happens and not....however, I usually get it.

I also resolved this autosave problem by removing duplicate fonts as proposed in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5231084

At first I only disabled the duplicate fonts, but the problem persisted. Later, I deleted the duplicate fonts and the problem was solved – no more autosave warnings in Keynote, Pages, or Numbers. Why were there dupliate fonts? I had loaded a new font set in both the system library and my user library. I deleted the copy from my user library and all was well.

I'm using Keynote 09 and OS Mountain Lion 8.5.

I got rid of duplicates in Fontbook but it didn't do the trick.

I have been copying slides from another presentation (different sized slides). This worked fine, but when I deleted their masters and was asked which master in the new presentation I wanted to assign them to, I got the "file has been changed by another application" alert.

However, if I selected the slides I had transferred and picked a new master from the masters drop-down menu, all was OK.

If I then delete the surplus templates I get the problem again.

However, it does save the file OK. But if I look in the "Browse previous versions" there are two copies for each timestamp.

It's a bit annoying but not disastrous.

I don't want to upgrade to the new Keynote as it seems too many things no longer work—like running a web page inside Keynote.
