Oct 28, 2013 1:36 PM in response to gwfaulkner1by mende1,Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Was your MacBook plugged to the charger? If not, plug it and run Apple Hardware Test again.
That error means that the flash storage is damaged. The only thing you can do is to make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take your MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. As your MacBook Pro is in warranty, it will be repaired free of charge

Oct 28, 2013 1:41 PM in response to mende1by OGELTHORPE,The Apple Hardware Test does not actually check the HDD itself. It may be damaged but the connection may be faulty. If you have an enclosure, take out the HDD and place it in the enclosure. If it boots, then the cable is the problem, if not the HDD is indeed bad.
Ciao.

Oct 28, 2013 1:53 PM in response to gwfaulkner1by gwfaulkner1,Yes, that MBPro is plugged in. I took the unit to the Apple Store where I purchased it and Genuis Bar ran their diagnostics and told me that nothing was wrong with the unit. I demonstrated the error to them and they said that the Apple Hardware Test was not design to be run by customers and since their diagnostics did not fail, I should ingore that HDD SSD error message. The last MBPro that had this error starting crashing before I convienced The Apple Store to replaced the unit as it started having problems within the first 2 weeks of ownership.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to convience The Apple Store Town Center Las Vegas NV that there is a problem with the SSD? Since this is not the first time that I have seen this problem, I not have NO confidence that this unit is reliable and am leary to use it for my business operations.
Thanks for all your help.

Oct 28, 2013 1:54 PM in response to gwfaulkner1by mende1,Re-run the test, but this time make sure you mark the option to run an extended test.
The Apple Hardware Test is the only test that Apple gives to customers in order to detect hardware problems, so the Genius was wrong. Instead, Geniuses at Apple Retail Stores have got different tests which are more reliable

Oct 29, 2013 7:23 AM in response to mende1by gwfaulkner1,I ran the AHT with extended checked, took a little over and hour to complete and I got the same error. Any suggestions as to what to try next? Thanks for all your help.

Oct 29, 2013 7:38 AM in response to gwfaulkner1by OGELTHORPE,Bring it to an Apple store genius bar and show the technicians the results. They have more sophisticated tests and will be able to determine if the SSD is faulty.
Cia0.
The SSD may have to be replaced so make certain that you have your files backed up.

Photograph the screen, date it and call AppleCare and say it's a warranty call, talk to them.
Make sure to make a note of the time and date, who you spoke too., etc. and that they refuse to service the machine.
Consult with others with your same exact specifications and see if your problem is individual or it's because Apple did'n't update the Hardware Test accordingly for all machines with your spec.
Note that your problem might be intermediate, not showing up for them at that time, but you still have a issue.
A lose conenction sounds like what the problem is, it's working then it's not at times, which the extended Hardware Test is catching and the fast Genius Test is not.
Keep a record and be prepared to explore your legal options if the drive fails, make backups.
It might be that later on that Apple finds out there is a bad batch of drives, like they did for some Nvida graphics and offer a replacement option outside of warranty. Buy AppleCare regardless.
Good Luck

Dec 7, 2013 4:29 AM in response to gwfaulkner1by CGPretty,is this a macbook pro retina early 2013? i have the same problem, when i took it to apple they said the exactly same thing and said theres nothing they can do
-
Dec 13, 2013 4:00 PM in response to CGPrettyby gwfaulkner1,YES. It is a Early 2013. The interesting part of this is that the AHD test passed with no problems for almost 6 months before this problem starting occuring. They can NOT explain this. I still think that Apple has a hardware problem that they have not been able to determine the source and found corrective action for. Much like the "non-repetable" problem with the antenna on the iPhone 4.

Jan 17, 2014 7:56 AM in response to gwfaulkner1by pkelley,I'm having the same issue -- Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013. Passes the power on self-test and disk utility tests, but fails the Apple diagnostics test. Receives error code : 4HDD/11/40000000: SATA(0,0). Could the error code have anything to do with the disk being partitioned? Machine runs great.

Mar 9, 2014 6:17 PM in response to gwfaulkner1by cargonaut,My bluetooth stopped working so I ran a hardware test. Got the same error code as you all did. I will head to the apple store as soon as I return from my trip and see what they can do. SSD problems do not sound good!, Backing up all the time. I'll keep you all in the loop.
