What Kilonzo2013 is trying to say is that he wants his computer to WARN him when the battery is low. I too, wish this would happen to me. I was using my laptop (MacBook Air) to do homework. It would've died on me if I hadn't checked the percentage. I started to wonder why it didnt warn me of low battery (It was at 3% to be exact) and I started to do some research. But I am not getting anywhere yet
:-/
I have the same issue. I need a warning to let me know my battery is low. The tiny graphic in the tool bar is insufficient. I don't remember/don't have the patience to stop what I am doing every 10 minutes to look. And if I am doing anything 'full screen' such as a video, it is not in view. I need something that gets "in my face" at least as boldly as the constant reminders to upgrade to Yosemite or that I have Facebook updates to view.
The popup shown in the post I am replying to has shown up and that would be fine if it only showed up every time my battery charge dropped below 20%. It doesn't. Not even close. Some times is appears when the battery is at say 15%. Other times is appeared when the battery was down to just 2%. That gave me literally 30-40 seconds to close out or get a charger plugged in before the thing shut down. More often, it just does not even appear. I go merrily along and then ZAP to black screen. I see no System Pref to address this failure.
I've resorted to keeping it plugged in 24/7 which I hear is not good for it as well. I saw the recommendation to get a third party app. None clearly state that their app provides this function. The one I did get, Battery Minder seemed to suggest this function but from the looks of it only tells me when the battery is FULL.
Great app I've been using: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/low-battery-saver/id480383312
You can tell it when you want it to warn you, and it's a warning you can't miss.
Try https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/low-battery-saver/id480383312. Works great.
Hey Kilonzo,
I admire your patience with the sanjampet and the other people above who don't seem to understand your question, despite it being extremely clear.
Not having found any answer that restores the low-battery warning pop-up that used to appear on screen but no longer does, I contacted Apple support and got this answer.
First: Uncheck the "Show battery status in menu bar" box from System preferences > energy saver > battery. Then...

Works a treat. You're welcome.
Before i try this solution, i need to ask a question. I mostly lost my low battery warning message when i went from snow leopard to mountain lion. I didn't lose it completely, for for my needs, it might has well have been completely gone. It used to pop up when there was 20% left, in the good old days. That's what i need. When i got Mountain Lion, it changed to popping up when there is 3% left. That doesn't allow enough time to make the warning effective for me. i might be a way from the computer, i might be working on something and would appreciate more of a warning than 3% so that i can finish what i'm doing or come to a stopping place. i don't want to come back and find it dead. i want the warning at 20%, or definitely more than 3%.
So i would like to ask if this solution just gives you 3%, in which case i already have that, or, if it gives you more than that reliably, in which case i will want to do this solution with P Ram reset.
Thanks for any info on this. i've had many macs for many years, going back to system 7 and it always gave me a 20% warning until Mountain Lion.
