ADC Display and Mavericks compatibility

After installing Mavericks I can't set the brightness of a 20 inches Cinema Display (ADC) anymore, options are just gone.

Anyone experienced the same? I already have reset the PRAM but it didn't fix it.

I'm using a Macbook 5,5 with an Apple DVI to ADC converter.

I was able to solve this problem.

I got the following .kext files from a computer running mountain lion.

AppleBackligt.kext

AppleBacklightExpert.kext

AppleUSBDisplays.kext

The files are placed in /System/Extensions

Then i placed the kextfiles on the desktop, and ran a tool called "KextBeast". This app installs every kext file on the desktop. Then i rebooted and voilá..

1. Get kext files

2. Run KextBeast

3. Reboot

Thanks for the pointer.

I backed up the 3 extensions from my 10.9 /System/Library/Extensions and replaced them ones from 10.8 manually. Just make sure the permissions are correct and you don't have to bother with that GUI utility. The 10.8 extensions are also codesigned, so 10.9 doesn't complain when it loads them up. I didn't notice any particular delay after rebooting and the brightness functionality has been restored.

I can confirm that this solution brought back the missing functionality - thanks a lot for sharing this information. To whom it may concern: the first time I tried this hack, BOTH monitors lacked the brightness slider, even after copying back the original 10.9 ktext files! It turned out that I had to delete the boot caches (used the "Onyx"-software for this) and the PRAM to get it going.

Now lets hope that we don't need to repeat this fix every minor update.

Wish I had known -- I have a 20" ADC Cinema.

My brightness controls work, however.

But every time I unplug the Cinema my MBP (2010) reboots automatically (and then tells me I shut down improperly).

I did 3 upgrade installation from 10.8 to Mavericks, and then did a clean installation--still does not work.

Guess I'll figure out a way to shut down each time before unplugging the Cinema.
