ADC Display and Mavericks compatibility

I have the exact same problem. It's horrible! I have a Mac Pro connected (via ADC-to-DVI) to 20" Apple Cinema Display. After upgrading to Mavericks, the display brightness is washed out and it's pretty much unuseable. I would love to know any sort of workaround!

I had some success. Unplug the connections going into the ADC/DVI converter and re-plug them in. Do this while the computer is on. My brightness came back to what I believe is the highest level.

Still no brightness control in System Preferences. But for anyone else having this same problem, maybe you'll have the same success I was able to have.

Just piling on ... one of the few / proud Apple Studio Display users {amazing how this has held up all these years} ... it's running full brightness on Mavericks, cannot change ... Apple, please addresses this in a subsequent patch ...

What a disaster. I don't know how we'll get the word loud enough for this to be fixed, we're a dying breed...

Same here. Running DVI-ADC to 23" Apple Cinema Display.

Tried all the usual fixes, no luck.

Also of note, I have a new Apple keyboard that is also not recognized in Control Panel.

It mostly works, except for the brightness keys of course.

Please patch this Apple.

I have the same problem. Mac Pro 3,1 with EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, 30''-ACD plays fine including brightness control, but 2nd screen (old 23''-ACD via ADC-DVI-Adapter) shows no brightness control. Has been all ok under Mountain Lion before.

I just filed a bug report at Apple's feedback page.

Thanks for the suggestion trzebinik but unfortunately this app and others like it only work to turn down the brightness, not up. For turning down the brightness (and having finer control) it works fine, but unfortunately it seems this larger ADC/Mavericks brightness control issue is now part of something that Apple considers just an incompatibility of older hardware:

Why they chose not to disclose this incompatibility before people upgraded to Mavericks is anyone's guess but it seems the recommended way to resolve this issue is just simply to buy a whole new display!

Also this means that brightness of the display light source has to be higher than necessary - AFAIK those programs just change gamma or "pixel brightness". This means, that more energy than necessary is consumed, and the life cycle of the display light source may be shortened.

We did pay a lot of money for our ACDs, especially in the early 2000er years. It's a shame those displays got crippled with Mavericks.
