iPod Classic storage issues

It is an 80GB iPod Classic, but I can't store more than 1GB of music in it.

I already restored it in different PC's with iTunes, fully uninstall and reinstall iTunes, tried to format it several times and then restore it... again, also tried to sync it in disk mode, but nothing worked.

It says that it has 73GB free, so it has enough free space, but still can't store more than 1GB! Any idea of what I can do? I need help! ):

With the iPod connected to your iTunes programme, look on the Device/Summary pane and make a note of how much space is being used by each media type. (You may need to hover the mouse over each type to find the figure. What are those figures?

From those figures, we can then work out what is using your space, and then why so much space is being used.

Sorry for taking this long to answer you back, I almost forget about my iPod. Well, right now I have 1.15 GB in Audio, 77.3 MB in Other and 73.0 GB Free. But if I try to store any other song in the iPod, iTunes freezes and I need to hard remove the device from the computer, then put it into disk mode, format it and try to sync it again... but whenever I try to store more than 1.15 GB... iTunes freezes 😟

There doesn't seem to be any problem there, I was checking to make sure there wasn't 73GB of "Other".

Try adding only part of your library at any time, until you have all the library on your iPod. This way, if there is something which is causing iTunes to freeze, perhaps we can narrow it down and work out what it is.

As you use Sync to manage the iPod, this is fairly easy.

  1. In iTunes, when the iPod is connected, look on the Device/Music pane and choose Sync Selected Playlists, artsist etc.
  2. On the first Sync, choose only a few of the artist, or genres, or whatever you prefer.
  3. If that goes well, try a second Sync, adding a few more of the artists etc.
  4. Repeat until you either successfully put everything on your iPod or iTunes freezes.
  5. f iTunes freezes, try and work out wht you were adding at that time. SPlit up the Sync to a smaller section in order to narrow doewn the problem.
  6. If it all goes well, try changing the Sync option back to Sync everything.

Alternatively, if iTunes freezes before you can make your first selection (i.e. step 2), try unticking a whole genre in iTunes and then Sync the iPod. To untick a complete genre in one step, look at the Songs view (which allows you to pick a section of your Library), and in the Songs view chosoe a genre (for example), hold down the CTRL key and click on any one of the boxes to the left of the song titles. All tick boxes shown will untick. Use CTRL and click in a box to turn all those ticks back on. To test this for yourself, if you choose a list with only a small number of songs in it, and try the CTRL/click, you will see how this works.
