Connection on Airplay keeps dropping, suspect caused by IOS 7

I had no problem playing movies from either iPad 2 or iPhone 4s before the IOS upgrade.
But recently the connection seems dropping evey few minutes when playing movies from on device.😢

Anyone has any problem lately?

I am getting dropouts when streaming from an iOS 6.1.3 ipad 2 as well as from an MacBook running osx 10.6.8 BUT only when I initiate the stream from these devices. When I start the stream from the Apple TV 3rd gen using home sharing, no problems whatsoever. That makes me think it is a directional problem...

Changing wifi channels did not help anything. Also, if it was a network problem either direction should not work.

Having same problem with AppleTV 3rd Gen. Drops ever 6 minutes like clock work when using Airplay from 3 different IOS7 enabled devices.

  • Not Bluetooth issue, (placed iphones 1 foot from AppleTV)
  • Network fucntioning normally with every other device, router, smarttv, etc etc. Signal strength is full bars.

Very frusterating, almost ready to take it back, checking here for supprot first.

I get a kick out of the sycophant Apple apologists dismising us out of hand.

Apple iOS isnt supposed to be like Windows, I shouldnt have to figure anything out thats why I pay more for it.

Plug and Play is promised and not delivered.

Definitely not a network issue.

At home using ipad2 ios7.0.4 with either apple tv 3 or Airport Express i have dropouts for few days now. But also at friends house (different country, different network setup/hw) on Airport Express (1st gen), exactly same issues.

Same here: no problems with my quite old MACBook running OSX 10.7.5. Neither with iTunes, nor via Airfoil or AirParrot.

Since we have IOS7 on 4 different devices the issue is obvious, but I cannot say we didn't face it before. Just not in that annoying frequency we can see (better NOT hear) it now ;-)

What changed regarding airplay / apple TV (always on the latest IOS-version) ?

SOLVED: I had the same problem myself. Until I came across information about a known issue with certain ATV's: a faulty chip that makes dropping the WIFI connection, eventhough the atv was wired! . See: http://www.mcelhearn.com/new-apple-tv-constantly-dropping-network-connections/

It's only the case with certain serial nummbers, see below or : http://www.iphoneclub.nl/246180/klein-aantal-apple-tvs-last-van-wi-fi-problemen/ ( showing memo)

  • Last characters of serialnumber must be: ‘DRHN’.
  • And the fourth and fifth characters must be: H9, HC, HD, HF, HG, HH, HJ, HK, HL, HM, HN, HP, HQ, HR, HT, HV, HW, HX, J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, J6, J7, J8, J9

Although my ATV had (and still has) a wired ethernet connection, I had it replaced today in the Apple Store and now Airplay is working just fine.

So it seems strange: a wired atv that had airplay problems caused by a not-even-used-wifi problem, but it solved the airplay problem for me.

Having the same problem. Worked flawlessly using iOS6. With the latest iOS7.0.4 it started dropping on my iPhone 5 and iPad mini.

And, as of today every time the iPhone wakes from sleep the Remote app silences the remote speakers. The screen still shows the remote speakers selected, but they are silent. I have to stop the song, toggle the remote speakers to off, wait several seconds, then toggle them back on, then hit play again. Happens 100% of the time now on both my iPhone 5 and iPad mini.
