Connection on Airplay keeps dropping, suspect caused by IOS 7

I had no problem playing movies from either iPad 2 or iPhone 4s before the IOS upgrade.
But recently the connection seems dropping evey few minutes when playing movies from on device.😢

Anyone has any problem lately?

There is a know issue with some Apple TVs. This was mentioned in prior posts. I suspect this is the problem for me. Call apple and get a replacement Apple TV if your serial number fits the criteria. While redundant, I post a link to an article on MacRumors.com

I Just wanted to say, I logged into my router and set it to onw channel instead of auto, and the issue appears to be gone.

its been the trend for the last year or two that things, apple and non apple, technology and other have been going backward in progress. In 2010 when I got my Apple TV and I had my iPhone 4 And my mid 2009 MacBook, every thing was perfect. The 2007 Camry I had then was problem free. I can't say that about my stuff now (same Apple tv and Mac book but new software). That goes for the 2010 Camry I iust got rid of.

IT seems like with more options comes more problems.

Point being: the router setting appeared to have fixed the Issue. But why did the issue start out of no where when I've had the same router, apple tv, macbook, and television and working together for at least 4.5 years?

I've been experiencing serious dropouts from both my macbook pro & iphone 5s.

My Atv is hard wired to the modem via ethernet as well - has been since day 1.

Its almost impossible to stream anything via the macbook without constant drop outs.

The iphone is a little better but some days it's so frustrating I want to throw the p of cr3p in the bin! More common on the iphone if you are attempting multitasking!

Has anyone got a REAL solution yet?

I'm getting the same issue, iPhone 6 using the Plex app Airplaying through Apple TV 3rd Gen - drop-outs every 10 mins same for my iPad Air 2. I got my wife's parents an Apple TV 3rd gen and they are Airplaying using the Plex app from the iPad Air 1 and getting the same issues. I've tried some of the above solutions but nothing seems to work!

I too am having Airplay drops on 4 different Apple TV units when playing audio from different iPad or iPhone devices. I too use Plex and have had problems with video dropping, installation of Plexconnect fixed that for me though, removes the need for Airplay. Everything worked fine for me in iOS 7 but after the upgrade to iOS 8 these drops started. This has been an ongoing issue for years it appears from this thread and could be attributed to a variety of problems ranging from network to software to Apple TV hardware itself. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a device that just "works" which Apple is famous for. I for one am sick and tired of troubleshooting this problem when everything else on my network works perfectly. Thankfully there are other devices from other manufacturers that can do a lot of the same stuff as Apple TV. Time to start researching my replacements for these problematic little buggers. Roku is looking good.

Hi, here’s my story:

My ATV3 was wifi connected, had a reserved IP and a strong radio signal. At random intervals the Airplay icon disappeared from my iPhone, iPad, MBP and Windows iTunes. In addition to that, ATV often could not be pinged! That suggested me that there could be a DOUBLE issue:

  1. Bonjour services broadcast was not running through my netwok (->no Airplay icon)
  2. ATV failed to switch wifi radio channels when the router automatically changed
channel (->ATV no longer in LAN).

After googling and investigating around I did the following to my system, achieving excellent results!!

- Manually open the following ports in the router (port forwarding): 3689,5353,1900,5351,5350,7000,5000,123,53
(I used both UDP and TCP “just in case”). For detailed info: https://support.apple.com/hr-hr/HT201733.

- Manually assign one fixed wifi radio channel : prevent the router from automatically
switch channel.

- Force ATV to connect in 2.4Ghz band.

ATV is now working for the last 24h, I am still doing some testing, stream looks good and
even wake up feature works! But I don’t trust this little black box anymore…

I think that the reason this problem persist is that manufacturers do not accept their
responsabilities: Apple think their stuff is perfect (and maybe using only Apple
hardware it is) and on the other hand most routers manufacturers ignore Bonjour
Services..Same old compatibility story!!

In my opinion AppleTv is the most “unfriendly” Apple device of all time.

For all on this thread that has the ATV connected to 1000Mbps ports: The ATV only has a 10/100 Mb port!

1000Mb is generally not auto-negotiate but 10/100 is. This means that the switch/router will run 1000Mbps and ATV will default to 10Mb half duplex.

Setting the switch/router to auto-negotiate and reconnecting cables will most likely solve these issues.

Diesel,

Many people I have spoken with, that own and operate Apple devices using AirPlay, seem to (recently) share a common issue with AirPlay connection dropping-out.

Most. like me, at first thought that it was our systems or networks. Apple since has acknowledged that they have received many Genius Bar requests for trouble-shooting this issue, and also that they have not been able to figure it out either.

If you look at many of the "What's New" or "What's Changed" text accompanying recent upgrades - starting with the first upgrade to iOS7, you will see that Apple notes a line that reads something to the effect of "Fixes an issue in which Airplay connection drops", or "Provides greater stability for Airplay connections", etc..

So obviously, Apple has been aware of the problem and has attempted to rectify the problem.

Here at work, for the past 3 years or so, we have exclusively used AirPlay (from different iPad's and Intel-Based G5's) to broadcast inter-departmental music playlists.

We never seemed to have issues before, but lately, we're lucky if we can play ONE song in its entirety without the audio dropping out at least once.

Just saying'...

HI - I noted this thread whilst looking for problems with Airplay dropping whilst playing music via my ATV.

I'm using the latest version of IOS8 and both Iphone 6 and iPad 3.

My problem appears at the end of songs played with shuffle activated.

Whenever the song stops I can manually forward to the next one and contiunue listening for a few songs and then repeat the fix.

It seems that the music playing app pauses randomly when a song has ended and should shuffle to the next one. However when listening to the same playlist on my headphones with a cable I have no problems at all. So there must be a combination of Music + song ends + shuffle activated + ATV3 + HDMI connected to my LG music device that triggers this behaviour.

I have tried a number of things to keep the stream connected across my network via iTunes. (With both Airport and D-Link wifi routers). Also, I am predominantly using Apple Music in these tests. One thing to note - and not sure if it will help - but I find that it drops out more often when trying to play to multiple sources. (eg., My iMac and Apple TV). When I just send it over to Apple TV, it seems to work fine and dropouts are less common.
