Bizarre file arrangement in Finder

I have no idea what the **** is going on with Finder since the upgrade to Mavericks, but I do know that it has become royally frustrating!

I like my files to be arranged in a very simple format—separated by file type, then alphabatized within that file type and with folders appearing at the top. This should not be complicated and I've been able to do it just fine on past versions of OSX, but with Mavericks it's apparently become impossible.

I have tried Arrange By Kind and Sort By Name only later to have the alphabetical arrangement completely screwed up. So I tried Arrange By Name and Sort By Kind only to have it STILL get screwed up. I've tried Arrange By None and Sort By Kind or Sort By Name and still it doesn't freaking work.

No arrangement ever sticks. Sooner or later, Mavericks decides to forget the order of the **** alphabet and arranges the files in a completely bizarre way that makes no logical sense whatsoever.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and does anyone know how the **** to fix it, because I'm going nuts constantly having to rearrange my files since Mavericks is apparently too stupid to do it properly.

This happens to me also. In Finder column view, I prefer arranging "By Kind" and sorting "By Name." When I click on a folder in OSX Mavericks all the files are scrambled. To fix this, I have to click on a different folder, then back on the same folder and the files will arrnage by kind.

I have been looking all over the Internet for a solution----have yet to find one. Very frustrating!

This is the fastest workaround by far, thanks! Though the fact that this works makes it even more infuriating that this bug exists and continues to go unrepaired.

I'll echo @dklemans again, and encourage everyone to submit this bug via Apple's feedback form for Mac OS-X.

I want to reaarange the pictures in my finder folders manually, but it won't let me. When I try & drag a photo, it just goes back to where it was before. I've always been able to rearrange manually before in Snow Leopard & Mountain Lion. I thought I had been able to do it in Mavericks until just recently, but not sure.

Can they be arranged manually? None of the Arrange By options fit what I'm looking to do.

I'm glad to know it's not just me. I just did something weird though. I went to my settings in Finder, and selected Settings. Then I selected View Options. Here's the weird part. It SAID Arrange By Kind, Sort By Name, which is how I WANT it, but that is not what I was seeing--the files were together by kind (folders with folders, for example), but then they definitely were NOT by Name as they had been before, like everyone is reporting. So I did something just for the heck of it. I selected Arrange By Kind, Sort By Kind. And I WATCHED them folders rearrange themselves into alphabetical order!!!

That makes NO sense, and I do not know if it'll stay that way, but that's what I did. Give it a try?

This is indeed frustrating! Today is my first day usimg Mavericks, and I didn't have any complaints until I had to simply sort some files. I shoot pictures in both raw and jpeg, so my image files alternate CR2 and JPG when arranged by name. Until today (I went from Snow Leopared to Mavericks), if I sorted by Kind, it would lump the CR2 files on top, and JPGs below. With the files separated thusly, I could drop the jpgs into their own folder, then change the sort order back to by name.

Now the Arrange by option stubbornly refuses to do anything but sort by name only when using the Sort by option in the drop down

Hoquet's work around worked for me, but it shouldn't be necessary to have to do that.
