How to burn DVD in iMovie 10
I've just upgraded to iMovie 10 and cannot figure out how to burn my movie to a DVD. I don't want to share on Vimeo, CNN, etc. I just want a movie for me?
What may I missing? Help, please!

PS: Can anyone tell me what sharing an iMovie to iTunes does? What is the purpose?
Sharing to iTunes allows you to sync the video to your iPhone, iPad, iPod, and AppleTV.
Hi Alan Cook2,
Yes, I did get a DVD out of it, even though on play back it 'skipped over damaged areas,' which, I believe has nothing to do with iDVD but with the finnickiness of the Apple optical drive what media it likes, and which it doesn't. It appears to me that there are more dislikes than likes...😟
However, my question to you is the following, if it happens to be in the area of your expertise: Does the mp4 format strip the chapter markers? It was my understanding that when iDVD finds chapter markers it creates submenus. No such thing happened. I did create a submenu, and dropped the iMovie in there, but I believe it created just another button that plays the movie in its entirety.
How do you generate buttons that link to specific chapters? The literature is shock full of how to create pretty buttons, but absolutely no mention of how to link them to specific scenes...
Thank you...
Thanks Alan Cook2 your solution worked well, its just frustrating that Apple have made what was a simple solution in the past into a convoluted exercise.
I just switched from Windows to Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. As I learned, iDVD is no longer bundled as part of the iLife package. I used a third party DVD burning software to export and burn iMovie to DVD.
Iv just done it, save the file as a file into documents and then it allows you to burn it to dvd simple......
The easiest way I have found to add Chapter Markers to an iMovie 10.x project and then burn to DVD is to:
1. export the iMovie to a file.
2. Fire up Apple Compressor (purchase here)
3. Add your Chapter Markers (search help for Add Marker). There is an option to import them from a file.
4. Select the DVD output format.
5. In the "Job Action" / "When Done", select "Create DVD". You can either specify the creation of an disk img file or burning directly to a DVD.
After many attempts trying to figure it out, I think I have it!! And it is quite simple...
After you "share" your movie project and click next, it will ask you where you want to save your movie. Remember where you saved it and what you named it. After it is finished sharing, go to the Finder and find your movie. Then you simply, right click it, or control + mouse click, and it will give you many options including: Get Info, Open With, Move to Trash... and "BURN (name of movie) to a disk"
Once you click on it, it will ask you to insert a disk and it is over and done with from there!!
There is an app from Roxio in the app store that is designed to work with the new iMovie the way that iDVD did.

I had to buy a new program...this was point click and drag...just right for me😝
Where is iDVD? I can't find it on my MacBook Pro. I created all my videos in iMovie?
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.
I'm with you. All I had to do was,
the newer macs don't come with idvd. you can't get it anymore
they don't make idvd anymore. they haven't for a few years now
I am having the same problem since I upgraded to El Capitan and to iMovie 10.1..........I tried to follow your directions for locating my movie file but I can't locate those files. Could you give me ( I am new at this) step by step instructions on your successful procedure? when I go to finder to locate imovie library it is the imovie program that just keeps opening, not the files????? Can't seem to locate the files you refer to! Thanks for your help.
