How to burn DVD in iMovie 10

Re above -

Instead of sharing the movie and creating another mpeg-4 file, I opened the package contents of the iMovie Library.

Then I selected the project, opened the folder called Original Media and in there is a .mov file which is the movie I wanted to burn.

Now, the rest worked because I have Toast Titanium: I right clicked on the .mov file and one option was "Toast It" which I did. The rest is simply using Toast to create a dvd which can be played on both computers and a regular machine wired into a TV.

How can i find and open the package contents of the imovie library - Tried searching for it but new to this and I am at a loss??

All you do is right (or control) click on the file iMovielibrary.library. You'll get a menu that includes "open package contents." Select it and you'll see folders for each movie project. Select the folder you want and inside it will be a .mov file and that's the one you want.

After trying all the great advice on this thread, I still cannot get my project to open in iDVD. The error message in iDVD is that the format is unsupported. I chose the large size and the movie is listed as an mp4 (MPEG-4) on my hard drive. Any suggestions for importing another way? This is so frustrating because this used to be so user-friendly!

OSX 10.9.2

iDVD 7.1.2 (1158)

If you've followed my step-by-step posted earlier in this thread and it doesn't produce a working DVD, your problem lies outside of my experience and someone else will have to help you. Here are the steps again:

1. Create a project in iMovie 10.0.1 (or 10.0.2)

2. Go to File>Share>File... and for Size choose Large 540P (960 x 540) and click Next

3. Choose a location on the hard drive to save the file to.

4. Wait for the blue circle activity indicator to finish.

5. In Finder, verify that iMovie created an MP4 file in the location specified in step 3.

6. Open iDVD and click "Create New Project."

7. Give the project a name and save it to your hard drive.

8. Drag the file you created earlier from the Finder into your iDVD project window.

(or go to File>Import>Video... and choose your video there)

9. Make any adjustments to drop zones, etc.

10. Click the burn button.

11. Insert a DVD and let it do its thing.

This produces a working DVD for me.

Was just researching this problem and found your solution. I have a similar Mac set up to you having recently upgraded to OS 10.9.1 and had to upgrade the other files that needed upgrading as a result, including imovie only to find it wont burn to dvd. I found that if I went to the finder location of the Mpeg 4 video I could burn it to a dvd but could not play it on anything other than a mac or pc.

On reading your response I checked and found I still had iDVD and it still worked so followed your instructions and yes it worked. I now have a DVD copy of a video that works in a relatively old (>10yrs) DVD player. The quality is however not as good. I checked the file sizes and found the original 4.63 GB Mpeg4 file was reduced to 2.95 GB video (not sure what format it actually is). Is this your experience as well and is there a way to retain the quality. Thanks again

I just tumbled into this thread because I finished an iMovie project of 45 minutes. It took about nine hours to 'load' into theatre, about two hours before the progress bar showed any indication that something was happening. I have a 2.26GHz Intel double core.

Now I want to burn a DVD and discovered this whole iDVD mess. I read Klaus1's long explanation, and I as well am thoroughly appalled. I still DO have the most recent iDVD app.

I am going to try Alan Cook2's procedure, and will report back.

The trick to open the iMovieLibrary file and find the .mov file in the 'Original Media' folder doesn't work for me. It has nothing but the still images when I play it with QuickTime. It is 63.2 MB large, when the full 16:9 project is over 6 GB. I am not looking forward to losing all that resolution in the iDVD project...

PS: Can anyone tell me what sharing an iMovie to iTunes does? What is the purpose?
