How to burn DVD in iMovie 10

apple should really attend to the fact that the 'progress' indication is just not up to any sort of standard - must be employing Numpties. so sad.

Re above -

Instead of sharing the movie and creating another mpeg-4 file, I opened the package contents of the iMovie Library.

Then I selected the project, opened the folder called Original Media and in there is a .mov file which is the movie I wanted to burn.

Now, the rest worked because I have Toast Titanium: I right clicked on the .mov file and one option was "Toast It" which I did. The rest is simply using Toast to create a dvd which can be played on both computers and a regular machine wired into a TV.

How can i find and open the package contents of the imovie library - Tried searching for it but new to this and I am at a loss??

After trying all the great advice on this thread, I still cannot get my project to open in iDVD. The error message in iDVD is that the format is unsupported. I chose the large size and the movie is listed as an mp4 (MPEG-4) on my hard drive. Any suggestions for importing another way? This is so frustrating because this used to be so user-friendly!

Like above (gordon55) still cannot find a way to get my project to openin in iDVD - "click on the file iMovielibrary.library. You'll get a menu that includes "open package contents." Select it and you'll see folders for each movie project. Select the folder you want and inside it will be a .mov file"

I cannot find the .mov file that dizs refers to???

I just tumbled into this thread because I finished an iMovie project of 45 minutes. It took about nine hours to 'load' into theatre, about two hours before the progress bar showed any indication that something was happening. I have a 2.26GHz Intel double core.

Now I want to burn a DVD and discovered this whole iDVD mess. I read Klaus1's long explanation, and I as well am thoroughly appalled. I still DO have the most recent iDVD app.

I am going to try Alan Cook2's procedure, and will report back.

The trick to open the iMovieLibrary file and find the .mov file in the 'Original Media' folder doesn't work for me. It has nothing but the still images when I play it with QuickTime. It is 63.2 MB large, when the full 16:9 project is over 6 GB. I am not looking forward to losing all that resolution in the iDVD project...

Yes, I did get a DVD out of it, even though on play back it 'skipped over damaged areas,' which, I believe has nothing to do with iDVD but with the finnickiness of the Apple optical drive what media it likes, and which it doesn't. It appears to me that there are more dislikes than likes...😟

However, my question to you is the following, if it happens to be in the area of your expertise: Does the mp4 format strip the chapter markers? It was my understanding that when iDVD finds chapter markers it creates submenus. No such thing happened. I did create a submenu, and dropped the iMovie in there, but I believe it created just another button that plays the movie in its entirety.

How do you generate buttons that link to specific chapters? The literature is shock full of how to create pretty buttons, but absolutely no mention of how to link them to specific scenes...

I am having the same problem since I upgraded to El Capitan and to iMovie 10.1..........I tried to follow your directions for locating my movie file but I can't locate those files. Could you give me ( I am new at this) step by step instructions on your successful procedure? when I go to finder to locate imovie library it is the imovie program that just keeps opening, not the files????? Can't seem to locate the files you refer to! Thanks for your help.

i am new to this community but I joined so I could let you know how much your post on burning a dis from iMovie to iDVD helped me! Thank you for the step by step instructions. I now have 4 discs burned and plan on making more to give away to those attending my dads 95th birthday party.

Well, when I arrived at step 5, I discovered that the only part of the iMovie project that was exported was whatever still image was on the viewing window in iMovie! Furthermore, that was a .mov file!
