mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Ok so Wifi is really starting to annoy now....

I have a 2013 Mac Air (about 1 month old). I upgraded to mavericks and now EVERYTIME the machine goes to sleep, i close the lid, whatever the wifi connection is shut down and on logging in again, the wifi doesn't connect. I have to manually turn off wifi and then turn on again before selecting my network (and usually needs 2 attempts).

This is unacceptable.

Does anybody else suffer from this issue? any ideas on how to fix it (other than reverting back to MLion - if that's even possible)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Kind Regards

Supersleb

The difference being that I was always able to hack Windows into working condition and swap out hardware when needed. That's why. Yes windows has plenty of problems, I've just always been able to get around them. I never had fundamental flaws like wifi not working and if I had hardware issues I could usually fix them on my own. With Apple I feel like I'm at their mercy for nearly everything and not just over this one issue. Mavericks has been an issue in many areas on my work machine. VPN issues, WIFI issues, email issues, you name it. All stuff that was working fine pre-mavericks. If this stuff was happening in windows I almost always had alternatives. even the dreaded missing start button in windows 8 was easy to resurrect. Dual booting Windows with Ubuntu gave me a machine that did almost anything I ever needed. I love how much less configuration and hassle I have to do with Apple products but at least with windows that hassle usually ended with a working setup one way or another, rather than me twiddling my thumbs waiting for Microsoft.

It's all subjective. I'm just sad about these issues. I was so excited to get this thing.

I understand the ease of being to hack stuff. Frankly I am afraid of upgrading anything outside of Mavs or add on anything new. I am even rejecting adobe updates for fear of having the thing crash on me. Right now I got it going and the worst that happens is after waking up the bars go up and down up and down (10' from AE) then the dreaded ! in wireless box and so far magic it starts working. I am not droppoing signals like some. THe irony is I rebuilt my old white 2008 Book with a new SSD, 4 gigs of ram , a new wireless card and a clean new install off a disk of Snow Leopard and the thing smokes. Wireless range is not as good as the new Air but I have a an old airport express I can plug in that is sitting at the other end of the house or maybe I willl pick up a usb range extender. 10.8..6 works pretty darn good. Even extended battery life but nothing touches the 12 hours I am getting on the Air. I think they will fix Mavs but how when.

A couple other things to try before completely abandoning Apple and Mavericks:

1. Try different orientations for the laptop with respect to the Wifi router (facing towards, sideways, facing away). Also experiment with being within line of sight of the router.

2. Try using the wipe/recovery method (hold down Apple-R during reboot to access the menu, and be sure to erase the Macintosh HD partition using disk utility before beginning the reinstall, or all your files and settings will be saved).

3. Try the script posted earlier.

4. Try the PingFixer App https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id808479246?mt=12 (Seems to be working for some people.)

I recently developed this problem on my Macbook pro. Many times a day the wifi would just disconnect. It is now working perfectly. Here's what I tried in order. I have a suspicion that the "location" bit is where the problem lies but I'm not sure how or why.

1. In the network system preferences, select the "edit locations" option from the location drop down.

2. Duplicate the location with a new name.

3. Delete ALL other locations.

4. For good measure I repaired permissions, zapped the pram and restarted.

5. I set my router to the default channel for the router ( 6 in my case, it was 1 ).

I have now had 3 days of operation without wifi loss and downloaded over 60GB of music from my iTunes match collection in that time. Seems like a pretty good test.

I have had a similar problems ( pre-Mavericks ) before and it always seems to be the locations getting somehow corrupted/failing that is at the root. I don't believe it is the router as all my other devices ( iMac/iPhone/iPad ) have had zero problems during this time.

Anyway, hope this helps someone.

I bought a retina MBP Haswell in Nov. and have had the 'loss of wifi upon wake' problem. I've reported to Apple, posted on the forums, called Applecare, got a hold of Apple's wifi unit (you have to ask AppleCare to transfer you) reported it on the developer site, sent them a wifi diagostic file and emailed Tim Cook.

I've tried many suggestions.

A week ago someone said 'reset the PRAM', that is reboot with command option P R all held down. Wait for the a couple of 'bong' cycles. Don't know why I hadn't thought it that.

I did and for a week, no problem. I even turned bluetooth back on (one of the suggestions sadi turn it off and it seemed to work for awhile...till it didn't any more...)

So far, with BT on, still no problem.

Try resetting the PRAM.
