mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Ok so Wifi is really starting to annoy now....

I have a 2013 Mac Air (about 1 month old). I upgraded to mavericks and now EVERYTIME the machine goes to sleep, i close the lid, whatever the wifi connection is shut down and on logging in again, the wifi doesn't connect. I have to manually turn off wifi and then turn on again before selecting my network (and usually needs 2 attempts).

This is unacceptable.

Does anybody else suffer from this issue? any ideas on how to fix it (other than reverting back to MLion - if that's even possible)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Kind Regards

Supersleb

I still do not understand why I have not heard of anyone trying a wireless dongle adapter. These things work even if wifi is shut off. I realize that is not what we should have to do to get our wifi issues resolved but for those who are suffering continously while awaiting a fix from Apple this might be a great patch. And they are dirt cheap.

I would love to hear from anyone with a wifi drop problem who has tried it. For $12(single band 2.4) -$30(AC/dual band) depending on the unit this is a dirt cheap solution. If my 2013 Air had not been fixed I would be trying vs suffering with dropped connetions all time. Am I nuts for suggesting this???

I cannot speak to why your posts have been deletd but if Apple was monitoring this site they would have shut it down completely as most everybody here is complaining about mal-funtioning dropped Wifi Mavs on Apple products. I just hung around after mine was fixed because I do not trust the fix. I also am on a forum that Mavs has trouble with the srceen going black. MIne was a pain until 10.9.2 came out and now that problem is fixed. But I notice not everybody on that forum is happy either. So why doesn't Apple shut down that one also??

I am not backing Apple in this post but the claim they are deleting some posts does make sense when nearly everybody is going nuts with compaints. Just my take on it. The FTC will do nothing. Look what GM did for the last 10 years covering up people dying in their cars.

koalaballs,

I think you might check these links. Your posts are not being deleted. I got nothing to do right now because my vetibular sytem is not letting me move around so I went back and looked for your posts.

Thanks for checking, Harvey, but two of my posts were definitely deleted by Apple. I got an email from Apple after one of the posts saying my post violated their terms of use. It was a critical post, yes, but actually less harsh than some of my later posts. And a couple other people early in the thread commented that they had posts deleted. So yes, Apple does occasionally monitor and delete posts from these boards, but I concede your point about them not deleting the entire thread. They may just casually scan threads like this.

I'm not anti-Apple at all. I've been using a Mac since the beginning when my parents bought one of the first models in 1984. I stuck with Apple through the Gil Amelio years. But the company is not above reproach, and five month into the Mavericks life cycle with no fix is absolutely ridiculous and worth a mass product recall.

Wow that's too bad about the posts being deleted. I am glad you straighten me out.

As far as Apple is concerned I agree with everything you say.

They are not above reproach. Interestingly is when you get a Wireless Apple Care specialist on the phone they will admit they have a problem. I twice had different Wireless techs agree that there was a problem. I am one of the fortunate (few?) who got a fix from them. But is still wants to hang on ! for a moment under certain circumstances. Sleep withou being connect to power is when I notice it awakens and starts searcing for a signal. Up and down up and down go the bars just 10 feet from a new air expres base station. It will take upwards of 5 seconds to find it and then hang for another 2 seconds on ! and then connect. It never does it when I am on power supply. I do have it set up to check for emails when sleeping on power so that means it never disconnects the wifi whereas when it sleeps without power I do not have it check for emails and then it drops wifi and the search begins when I awake. My freaking 08 Macbook connects instantly underall circumstances so I still view this as a sitting on the fence issue. It should not take 5-7 seconds to connect 10 ' from base.

I had the same problem and this worked for me:
Disk Utility-Go to your drive-Repair Disk, let Repair Disk run, after it is done, close it, then do a full shutdown of your computer.

Restart your wireless system too.

Then turn on your computer and it should work.

Note-I updagraded to the Maverick OS, and I use my iPhone as my wifi.

I agree. I do not consider a 5 second delay to reconnect after sleep mode worth spending hours for a soultion.

Did you think I said that? Because I did not say that. I have not spent 5 seconds looking for a solution. All I said is that I had a true wifi reconnect problem fixed months ago. I said it still hangs on the ! once in a while but then it will connect. Because the ! appears after 5 seconds and then hangs for a couple of more seconds I consider the possiblity that it make revert back to not original problem as some people have reported on this forum. So is that a problem for you? But it still should not take 5-7 seconds to connect but that is not what my post to "koalaballs" was about. I consider myself fortunate 5 seconds or 10 seconds reconnect.

The 2 times I was on the phone with Apple Care Wireless was 4 months ago when I had a real wifi hanging problem upon wake up. We were able to fix it. Are we cool now?
