Why can't I delete photos on my IPad without synching?

I am new to Apple products. I love the speed, but hate the usability compared to Microsoft. Why can't I just click on a photo and delete it without synchronising to my Computer which may be in another country at the time I want to delete them ! From looking at previous Google searches this function seemed to be available before but now is not there.

In case anyone is still having problems with this issue.

For iPad 2:

1. Go to the Camera app.

2. Open up 'Camera Roll'

3. Scroll through photos and delete individual pictures as needed, using the little trash can symbol in the bottom right hand corner.

This worked on an iPad 2, and it worked for synced photos, downloaded images and photos taken with the iPad. I don't know whether it would be any different on later model iPads.

That doesn't make ANY sense. Why don't you have to go to itunes to delete music, using that logic? You can delete music that was synced from itunes and put on itunes first, and apps that were put on your device after being initially downloaded on another device. I don't mind Apple making the odd mistake, I do mind the kind of arrogance that your comment betrays.

Nope. The photos sync'd via iTunes have to be removed via iTunes. Unlike music, photos do not live in the iTunes library. They live in iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac or in a Photos folder on a PC. The path to add or remove them is directly linked to the sync process. You can delete Camera Roll photos or Photo Stream photos. Camera Roll photos because they live only on your iPhone until you import and delete them from the device. Photo Stream photos because they live in iCloud, and although you may have them set up to automatically upload and import to iPhoto or Aperture, they also live separately in iCloud. If you delete a Camera Roll photo that you have already imported to your computer, it deletes it only from the phone. If you delete a Photo Stream photo that you have automatically imported to iPhoto or Aperture, then it only deletes it from your phone and from your live Photo Stream. In both of those cases, those photos also reside, under a separate path, in your Photo Library.

That's just the way it works for now. We will have to see what happens when the new Photo App comes out.

Whatever u guys say, inability to delete a file that is on a device from within that same device is a gross limitation in the usability. I can't see how can this enhance security of the user. I myself am using this ipad mini 2 for the last two days (my first apple device) and this along with some other odd features are really irritating me. Like the gorgeous look of the device though. Beautiful screen and impressive camera as well. I could easily have paid twice its price to have the same device running on Android.

Wow, great answer..."Our product is a stupid piece of garbage that is unable to work they way 99% of our customers would like it to work...but that's just the way it is. We don't hire people smart enough to make photos that can be deleted by just clicking on them and deleting it, but that's the way it is...suck it iPhone customers...we're Apple and we hate you!" Cheers....GB

Do you have a question or are you responding to a thread that is a year and a half old because you just like the sound of your words. This is a user to user forum. So, it is not "our" product. If you want to participate in this forum, read the rules, and understand who you are addressing. Apple is not here. If you don't like the way the products work, get an android.
