Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?

Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

I wouldn't bother getting the iPad replaced. The light bleed is a minor annoyance compared to a yellow screen, which it appears many of these devices have. I personally went through 3 iPad Airs before finally giving up and getting a refund. I would consider myself lucky to have the uniform screen color and call it a day.

The rMBP screen is a crapshoot. Once again, if you don't notice the light bleed when you're working, which is more or less what the laptop is for, then I wouldn't bother. My rMBP screen, also a Samsung, has a few dead pixels, but they're only noticeable when I'm watching movies and occasionally a YouTube video. Is it obnoxious for a $3000 machine to have defects like this? Most definitely, yes. However, I think you'll cause yourself undue stress and frustration if you keep chasing perfection. YMMV.

I'm on my second 5s and the screen is much better than my first. The yellow at the top isn't nearly as visible mainly because the entire screen is a yellow hue to match it. I don't feel it's as nice as my iPhone 5, but I'm starting to get used to it. So, if you're satisfied with your screen, then you're running a risk exchanging it for a new one. That said, I wouldn't be happy if my screen was nicked the way yours is. That little flaw would drive me insane. I believe Apple would agree that's not supposed to be there.

HI,

yep, I did checked with 40, 50, 60 % brightness on black wallpaper. I can see the light bleeding as shows in my previous posts at the same corners.

I have an appointment with Genius tomorrow.

I will update late tomorrow regarding that appointment.

I paid 600 squid for this thing and I expect a 100% perefect craftman ship product from apple not this 80-85 % perefct thing.

Ok folks, here is what I discovered. I hope this information would be helpful.

I looked carefuly at seven (7) different iPad Air devices with different serials. Checked all of them for yellow screen tint on left hand side issue. Five (5) iPads had half yellow screen issue. Only ONE was perfect. The serial was DMTLJ. This one I have now. I had another one with DMPLF serial. This one was without yellow tint on left issue, BUT the white balance was not correct on it. The whole screen on the white picture was a little bit yellow. So I returnet it for refund. Because of this white balance issue everithing looked duller on the screen, Grey color in the clock app was with a little bit yellow, compared to the DMTLJ. I think it was similar to the duller colors on the iPad Minis with Retina. AND the biggest surprise was that these two similar iPads had different weight! They are both 16Gb versions WiFi only, white color (silver).

DMTLJ is 472g (1:0.6lb) Perfect screen, white balance and contrast. No light leakage.
DMPLF is 467g (1:0.5lb) The whole screen was a little bit yellow. Hard to figure it out without comparing it to another iPad Air with good white balance.
Do not know why there is a difference in weight. Either different screens or different batteries. The logic board and other small parts should be the same in weight.

I have some pictures that you can see the difference in the screen quality. Let me know if you want to see them.

P.S. Purchased DMTLJ on Nov 6, at BestBuy. Model A1474.

DMPLP, week 42 if I remember correctly off of the top of my head. Yeah as much as the bleed is noticeable when watching movies and stuff, it's not at all noticeable when doing anything else at all, and even my first air had bleed a bit on one edge. I'm leaning towards not getting this one replaced simply because aside from the right side being slightly brighter than the left (only noticeable really if you're scrutinizing), it's got perfect color uniformity. No yellow at all. And from what it sounds like it's almost a guarantee that I'll get a yellow one if I swap it out. Maybe in the new year, 6 months from now, if it's still bothering me and it seems as if they have resolved the issues, I'll swap it out again, but who knows if that will happen.

Yeah, thanks for the advice. You're right, the rMBP screen is perfect otherwise and it seems as if all of them have bleed to some extend, and mine is relatively minor in comparison, and doesn't affect any of the colors in those corners. I was on the fence about the ipad screen, as I said before, but from my above post I think I'm going to agree with you and just keep it since in 90% of my use I don't see it. It's only visibile when watching movies in darker environments.

My iPhone I'm still on the fence about because this one has everything else perfect, right down to the buttons being tight, quiet, and not loose at all. We'll see. I'll have to wait a few weeks to take it in anyway, so if it's still bugging me then I'll go get it replaced. It seems as if they've resolved most of the 5S production issues as from my last couple replacements, the yellow band at the top has been less and less common. Hopefully they do the same with the ipad production issues!

FINALLY!

I just went to Apple Store located at Eaton Centre in Toronto.

This was my 5th attempts to get an iPad Air with proper screen.

First one: DMQL

Second one: DMPLP

Third one: DMPLQ

Fourth one: DMPLQ

Last one: "DMRL"

now hopefully I got my iPad with Perfect screen with no light bleeding & tint on the left side or anything wrong.

I hope you guys can get a perfect screen with your lucky attempts!

Good luck!

I don't think the serial numbers mean much. I had 3 Airs with yellow screens, but the 4th is near perfect and it is DMPLD production week 37. It's very frustrating and awkward to have to keep returning iPads, but worth the effort when you are able to get a good one. I had the same issue with my iPad 4 and returned 3 with yellow tinges on the side before getting one with a perfect screen. I hope everyone here is able to get a screen they are happy with.

bentley123456: I have the same 5th first letters with me serial (DMPLD) and you right the screen is good but not perfect since the right side is brighter than the left. On my iPad I can especially see that on the keyboards when comparing right between left keys. So I' m just waiting a bit to see if better a better batch is coming in order to swap it

The keyboard in portrait mode is where I can see it also. For the most part I use the iPad in landscape mode and the color difference is barely noticable. After trying to use my first 3 iPad Airs that were yellow overall, I'm just happy to have one with a bright, white screen with just a little dingyness on the lower left side that most people would probably never notice. I plan to keep this one. Apparently Apple doesn't recognize this as a problem so who knows if it will be fixed. I wouldn't give up the one you have until you're sure the replacement is an improvement.

Well, I thought I would share my experience with the iPad Air. First iPad I got was fine, and then developed a red horizontal line down the far right edge, so I had to return it. Then my replacement had the yellow tint. Returned that also after the lady at the store said it was not right. Replacement for that also had a yellow tint (even worse) and a bezel chip so I returned that too, this time for a refund. Tried to live with the yellow in the hope that it would disappear but no joy! I ordered one from Tesco Direct (not holding up much hope) which arrived today and is perfect... so uniform and the screen is crystal clear. Serial is DMRLP. Never had these issues with iPad before. Strange.

Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
