Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

I'm on my third iPad Air now, the latest one was a warranty replacement at Milton Keynes Genius Bar for one that was originally bought from Currys/PC World so I have lost my chance for a refund.
My current one is a week 42 (oct) and has a slight yellowing on the bottom left hand corner which Is quite evident in iBooks, Google and the keyboard.
What do you suggest? To go back to a Genius Bar or order a warranty replacement via apple care? Do you know if they put a charge on your card if done via Apple Care over the telephone to ensure you return the orginal one?
I'm thinking maybe the AppleCare warranty replacement maybe newer as the one I picked up from Milton Keynes Genius Bar last Thursday was an October week 42.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Replace it. It looks bad.
The unfortunate thing is that this website with its white background highlights perfectly where the problem is. I notice it on mine much much more when I'm in this thread. If every owner had this problem to some degree one could argue it is a technological limitation of the new design. But as people have reported there are perfect white screens out there meaning it is a manufacturing fault. I'm waiting till after Xmas to make sure they have corrected the manufacturing error. If it still persists after that, Apple have decided this is acceptable level of quality control and I will look elsewhere for my handheld needs.
I was at the Lincoln Park Apple Store (chicago) today with my iPad Air to compare with the display models. I have the shadow on the left hand side and all of the displays had the shadow also.... except for maybe one, although it wasn't perfect. After seeing mine, the Apple employee nodded his head and said he's seen it on all of the iPads on display.
It's too late for me to return mine but if I could I defiinitely would. My advice to anyone who asks will be to wait until this is fixed. Hope this helps someone.
Received my 4th iPad Air, direct from China, serial DLRLP (haven't seen the "R" before)...the largest yellow gradient I've seen so far. I also noticed a small edge bleed when I first turned it on and it was booting up (with the black screen and Apple logo).
The bookspine effect was negligible, though. Not bad enough to worry about.
Returning. Will try again via online order.
I finally couldn't stand the yellow left hand side of my iPad Air anymore, and returned it for a refund. Just so everyone here knows, Apple has a liberal return policy now until the end of year (assuming of course you purchased your device from Apple.) I had mine for almost a month before I couldn't stand the displya anymore, and was able to return it. Here's the return policy... good luck, I plan on trying again in the new year if this thread finds resolution:
Holiday Return Policy
Items purchased at the Apple Online Store that are received between November 1, 2013 and December 25, 2013, may be returned through January 7, 2014. Please note that all other terms and conditions provided in the Apple Online Store Sales and Refunds Policy are still applicable with respect to such items purchased. All purchases made after December 25, 2013 are subject to the Standard Return Policy.
These look like screenshots, not photos of your screen. The reason they look perfect here is because it is the actual image, not what the screen is showing the image as. You need to take a photograph.
I'm sorry you didn't understand my post let me explain it to you. The solid colors are meant to use test your own iPad screen they are not screen captures nor are they photos of my actual iPad. Download them to your actual iPad and open them using the photo app. Make the images full-size and view them in a dark room. I used the white image to determine if my display had any yellowing and to see if it had the spine effect. I also used the other color images to help determine screen color uniformity and dead pixels. No one will benefit from an actual photo of my iPad considering it is next to impossible to take a proper photograph without any artifacts from the camera or the lighting in the room. I still cannot find a proper photograph displaying the so-called spine effect.
Just got mine delivered direct today in New Zealand and it seems to be just fine. Serial is DLXLN and looks to have come from Foxconn Shenzen. White screen test appears perfect and if it's not is certainly below my threshold of detection. Have compared it side-by-side with my ipad 3 and I'd say the white *maybe* slightly more pure white. The black also appears to be deeper on the Air. There is a very very very tiny bit of bleed in the bottom left corner of the Air on the black background, but there is a similar artifact on the right side of my iPad 3.
Can't see any reason for complaint with mine.
@audiophylua
Thanks for letting us know , it allows people to keep faith in getting one day a decent screen.
On my side after I received my third replacement still flawed - although on a much lesser extent than previous units- Apple refused my refund request because I had bought the first one in a Premium Reseller and not directly with them. And since I exchanged pads through AppleCare the reseller refuse refund as well. Sweet.
So I'm now stucked in the exchange- lottery roll, and furious.
Audiophilia: This is really good to hear that ! Did you check with the picture with the differente scales of colors from the black to the white? You can find the picture in the previous posts and this is really a good test because when seeing this picture you can see to each side the white and see if there is any difference between them such a warmer or cooler white or a difference of brightness.
Also and even though since now no evidence has been confirm it looks that the Serials which start with DLXLN have a better screen. I don't whant to says that this is something true everytimes but the screens with those serials look better according to the users who got them...
yes, I checked with the gradient bar image....all in all it's pretty solid. Like I said *only* defect is a tiny bit of light bleed in lower-left corner when using black image and in a completely dark room.
Your whites look OK. Black looks awful. Try setting it at 40% brightness. I think that's the recommended setting to chheck it with? If I turn my brightness to 100% and look at the black in an off-angle I can see that purple effect, but I don't think that is a defect and it's just a matter of looking at an LCD/LED panel at max brightness on an extreme angle. I've never seen an LED/LCD screen that doesnt' have issues when viewing from a >150 degree angles.
Admittedly, yours does seem pretty bad on the blacks in the photo. If it looks like that with 50% brightness and within <120 degree viewing angle, I'd say take it back. If so it should be able to reproduce it in the store you bought it from.
Tried again today getting an Air... opened up 3 in the store with the salesperson before decided on getting a refund. All three had left side yellow tint. The people at the apple store seemed aware of the issue - and were very helpful - however unable to provide me with an iPad without the the yellow tint.
For the record I know that there are screens that are MUCH better looking on other iPad Airs as I have seen them myself - all of which makes what is happening even more frustrating or proof I have really bad luck. Having used up my return limit at Best Buy and my current apple store recognizing me as "the guy who keeps coming back to return his iPad" and countless hours spent back and forth to the apple store etc. this must be a sign that I should not get an iPad Air.
Order a few at at time from the apple online store; they are very excellent at customer service and returns are free. Not sure where you live, but you can also try Target, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack. If you can, pay in cash and refuse to use your reward card so they can't track you.
Well darn I'm noticing the yellow/warm color on the left side along with the darker/dim edge, while it's cooler on the left. My air starts with serial dmplfq. I'm going into best buy tomorrow for an exchange .
Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
